Donald Trump will soon betray the GOP
The Week ^ | 1/28 | Paul Waldman

Posted on 01/28/2016 8:22:06 AM PST by TangledUpInBlue

I say that because there's no reason to think that Trump won't turn on a dime the instant he has to face a general electorate, and begin advocating a whole new set of policies. He adopted an entirely new set of beliefs for this race, one attuned to what his current audience wants — not just xenophobic, but fervently pro-life, pro-gun, pro-God, and pro-whatever else he thinks primary voters want to hear. Trump panders shamelessly to whoever he's talking to, he has no genuine ideology, and he won't feel tied to anything he's said before, any more than he's tied to his previous positions on health care or abortion.

Unlike other politicians who struggle to explain any hint of contradiction between what they're advocating now and what they've advocated before, Trump waves it all away. Remember all the painful contortions Mitt Romney went through to convince Republicans he was in complete agreement with them and had renounced his prior hints of moderation? Trump doesn't bother with that. Who cares what I said then? This is what I'm saying now, and anyone who has a problem with it is a low-energy loser.

This is an amusing thread!

From the OP:

‘’He adopted an entirely new set of beliefs for this race, one attuned to what his current audience wants ‘’

God forbid that a politician should pay attention to THE PEOPLE!

And God forbid that the man should learn something along the way, and reflect that learning by changing his mind. That’s called ‘intelligence’.

Some people would much rather have the kind of politician who doesn’t listen to his constituants, and who never learns but keeps doing the same mistakes over and over and over, refusing to learn. The very definition of insanity, and stupid.

You mean the same GOP that has claimed to be conservative and has given us turncoat liberals like Dole, McCain, Bush Jr. and Romney?

So lets see, put our faith in the GOP who has betrayed us and this nation for decades along with the dems?

Put our faith in the Dems?

or put our faith in Trump?

Well this is a simple calculus, the GOP and DEMS have screwed us for decades... Trump may well screw us, but given the other two’s track records, how can they claim they are a better choice?

This is the simple, and undeniable logic of why Trump is where he is... GOP has betrayed the electorate and their supporters for decades, now want to try to argue someone else wills screw you over, stick with us...

Its a stupid argument that no one will buy.

Had the GOP actually stood up to Obama at some point beyond token lip service they might not be in the straights they are, but they didn’t... so here we are.

This is why all the attacks on Trump fall on deaf ears, those making them have ZERO credibility.

Trumpeteers are seemingly blinded by the fact that Trump is destroying the media and irking the GOP.

Are you defending the media and GOP?

There’s no way to tell what his support is among blacks. These primary polls have tiny samples and the sample becomes statistically meaningless when you look at that small a slice of it. We do know for a fact Trump loses in many polls against Hillary/Sanders and Cruz does better than him in every single one. As a hispanic, Cruz will do much better with the hispanic vote than the guy who equated Mexicans with rapists.

While the GOP and Dems were betraying us, Trump was funding them with no strings attached that helped the country in any way, just personal bennies for his company.

At the same time, Cruz was putting his reputation and career on the line to fight the GOP and Dems and expose their corrupt backroom dealing.

Trump is ahead in the polls only because people don’t know what Cruz did and because he’s a big name celebrity with name recognition.

A far better solution than a greedy real estate developer from New York with a daughter who’s best friends with Chelsea Clinton.

Maybe you could tell me:

Teddy supported surrendering the Treaty power on the Iran Nuke deal.

Teddy supported increasing H1B visa to allow for further displacement of American Workers. Before he saw the polls and changed his mind.

Teddy supported TPP/TPA before he changed his mind.

Teddy hypocritically calls for the end of ethanol subsidies all the while not calling for the end of oil subsidies (wonder why?)

Teddy is beholden to wall street investors for funding.

Teddy has been in congress for 3 years serving as an outlier and has done nothing to advance the conservative agenda.

All that matters to Teds Unstables is that he is conservative on paper and cannot get along with his fellow congressmen.

A 45 year old Senator who has accomplished zip except talked a good game that Teds Unstables believe why?

Unlike other politicians, Trump seems to have no friends, no allies (other than the occasional crackpot like Sarah Palin or Joe Arpaio)

Tells me all I need to know about the author's motives. I like them both. If the author wants to call them "crackpots", his argument carries absolutely no weight with me.

Not at all!

Just that Trump lovers are pretty infatuated with him because he can destroy the GOP and Media with pazazz and glitter — he can speak the right words. But in the end he doesn’t have the same conservative convictions 90% of his followers do and his words mean nothing.

Trump’s Details: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions

Obama never said he wanted to make America great. Obama said he wanted to make America just like every other country in the world. He said American exceptionalism was a bad thing and he was going to “lead from behind.” These are the only promises Obama actually kept.

I will vote for Trump should he be the nominee simply because he's the only other candidate who hasn't said 'there's nothing we can do about illegal immigration'.

But my eyes are wide open concerning everything else thats wrong with the guy.

Trump didn’t know his own web site policy criticized Mark Zuckerberg while he was praising Zuckerberg in the debate.
