Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, the spokesman of the refuge occupation, was shot and killed after he charged police during a roadside stop north of Burns on Tuesday, according to a man on Facebook who claims to be the driver of one of two vehicles involved in the highway shooting.
McConnell said he noticed movement, and Finicum "took off" in the pickup with the remaining passengers. He said Payne and Cox described encountering a police roadblock about a mile north on the highway and apparently tried to get around it, becoming stuck in the snow.
"When he exited the vehicle, the rear wheels were still spinning," McConnell said. "He charged at law enforcement" and was shot.

Yes - and especially don’t charge after you took off in your vehicle trying to evade arrest.
FWIW, the remaining holdouts are sitting around a camp fire drinking beer and smoking pot.
Saw it on the defend your base live feed via youtube earlier this evening.
Well I know you didn’t listen to it between me posting the link and posting back to me, because I know how long the audio is. Do listen, really.
That doesn’t fit with what LaVoy said about not going to jail - saying he rather be killed.
Really. Smoking pot? How do you know?
Funny the difference what people say and what they do when there are little red and/or green laser dots all over them.
I believe you. It’s just that we can’t know for sure either way at this point in time.
I think the vehicle will tell the tale, unless it ends up in the same storage facility as the front door from Mt. Carmel.
What??
He was evading arrest. There’s that. Another bad choice. The guy in the facebook video got let go. LaVoy might have too had he not evaded arrest.
I am so thankful when I see the names of Freepers who have been around a long time. ;)
I know the Trolls are out just doing their job, at least someone is making a little money off this sad incident.
Multiple witnesses state that Lavoy Finicum had his hands in the air when he was shot by the authorities. Wouldn’t you think after all the recent hullabaloo about cops using excessive force they would have had more restraint? oh yea, that restraint is only for black protesters in Ferguson who are burning buildings.
A God loving Patriot is a whole different issue. Then it is shoot to kill because the Gov had to make a statement. This kind of behavior is not to be tolerated. Standing against the tyrannical Government is not to be tolerated.
The media has him saying that, but you and I weren’t there to see what happened, will we ever get to see the evidence of what happened until after an election season is over.
That’s what happened to the video of the teenager killed by police in Chicago. It wasn’t released until after Mayor Rahm Emmanuel got re-elected.
We’ve got elections for POTUS and Governor of Oregon going on this year.
BTW, there was a vigil in Burns, Oregon this evening for Robert “LaVoy” Finicum with several dozen attending.
One man held up a picture of Finicum captioned “#All Lives Matter”.
LaVoy took off in his vehicle. That is evading/resisting arrest. It is never a good choice. But LaVoy said he rather be die than go to jail so it’s not odd that he took off. .
This guy was taken, questioned, and released. No charges? He was supposed to be driving the car Ammon Bundy and Brian Cavalier were in. Bundy and Cavalier got arrested. Why not him? Did he cut a deal with the cops to avoid charges by providing their side of the story? Wouldn't be the first time.
They were talking about.
Go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Didmlq-auVU the feed is still up but is interrupted. There are still a few sidebar comments about it if you scroll up.
True, but you seem to take this McConnell's story as fact.
Wow they were talking about smoking pot?? While drinking beer?
And none of the LEOs had dash cams or body cams?
And people charge cops when they have their weapons drawn all the time. Right. No. Not right. When looking at guns pointed at you, the impulse is to run away.
Everyone here wants to take the 18 year old girls story as fact.
It might no be fact.
