Cruz: Trump afraid to defend his record
The Hill ^ | January 27, 2016, 07:52 am | Mark Hensch

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said late Tuesday that Donald Trump's fear of defending his record is behind the GOP front-runner's boycott of the next Fox News GOP presidential debate.

"The reality is, the reason Donald is doing this — I actually don't think it's because of [Fox News host] Megyn [Kelly] at all," he said on Fox News's "Hannity."

"I think it's because he's afraid to defend his record, that he knows he can't defend his record, and he's trying to hide from the voters of Iowa," Cruz said six days from the first voting state's caucuses next Monday.

"He's not willing to stand up and explain why he supports Bernie Sanders-style, full-on socialized medicine, expanding ObamaCare so the federal government is in charge of our healthcare," he said, tying Trump with the Democratic presidential contender.

"He can't explain why today he supports taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood," Cruz added.

"He can't explain why he supported Obama's stimulus plan and supported Obama's TARP bail-out of the big banks. He doesn't want to answer those questions, and he refuses to show up."

Cruz argued that Trump's claims of bias from Kelly reveal he is not capable of confronting more powerful public figures.

"If you're afraid of Megyn Kelly, then you're going to be afraid of Hillary Clinton and you're going to be afraid of Vladimir Putin," he said.

"If you're afraid to have anyone ask a question, that does not bode well for what kind of commander in chief you'd make," the Texas lawmaker added.

Trump announced late Tuesday that he is skipping the seventh GOP presidential debate in Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday evening.

Kelly and Trump have publicly sparred since the first debate last August. The outspoken billionaire disliked her questions about his past remarks toward women.

Cruz is an easy target

None of his colleagues even like him or work with him

Persuading 52% of the electorate he is a loser won’t be difficult

Of anyone in the Senate, Cruz is pretty close to being the only one fighting against that agenda.

But don’t let me interrupt your agenda of lies.

Sometimes a basketball team with a lead will "let the air out of the ball" in the closing minutes, stalling to try to hold onto their lead. Or a football team will go into a "prevent defense" for the same reason. But it can backfire on them, and the other team can take advantage of it and pull out the win.

It seems that sort of "prevent defense" is what Donald Ducked is doing by ducking out of the last debate. He's trying to protect what he perceives as a lead, and he doesn't want the risk of being exposed for the vacuous empty-suit blowhard he is.

How many times have we heard the candidate trailing challenge the election leader to a debate? Just about every campaign. Ted Cruz is just doing what every politician who is trailing in the polls does.

Trump has a point, this would be the 7th debate, of which the first 6 Trump won, according to the polls. Not much too much new ground to cover and still 6-8 people on the stage.

I hope Megyn wakes up the morning of the debate feeling under the weather. How would it look if Trump isn’t there and neither is she?

Trump’s liberal record is as of a few months ago.

[A real leader who gets his way by bullying and bluster? ]

A real leader who is tough and will not settle for America being a second rate nation! Someone who would have walked away from the Iran negotiations, leaving the Iranians with nothing but their peters in their hands.

And yet... he won’t debate because he can’t handle Megan Whatsername.

{ shrug } whatever.

[Trump’s liberal record is as of a few months ago.]

Compared to Cruz’s Canadian record from a year ago?

Trump is afraid of Megyn Kelly — and put out that she wouldn’t put out for him — and afraid of Cruz and afraid of the voters. He’d be scared silly of the Mad Mullahs and Vlad the Imperialist.

Ha-Ha, Trump won't have his adoring fans at a one-on-one debate with Cruz.

You don’t think the DNC along with GOPe will not shop a federal judge to disqualify Cruz.

Think McFly!

...and he doesn't want the risk of being exposed for the vacuous empty-suit blowhard he is.

You may want to follow his lead, and stop posting. He would have won this last debate, like he won all of the others. But Fox had clearly indicated that they were willing to go way beyond normal media bias, and turn the debate into even more of a farce than usual. Trump has taken a stand, a stand that Republicans should have taken a long time ago, against this kind of nonsense. And idiot posters just can't handle that Trump is, once again, leading and winning.

You can pretend all you want that Trump is scared, or in some kind of "prevent defense", or whatever fantasy helps you sleep at night. But you are fooling nobody, except, perhaps, yourself.

This is purely a publicity move that has little or nothing to do with Fox News or Megyn Kelly.

This is Donald Trump betting that he wins the news cycle by not being at the debate.

Those that support him will tell us it’s the best move ever.

Time will tell.

If you don’t support single payer health care, tax payer support of Planned Parenthood, TARP, 0bama’s stimulus, taxing the wealthy, touchback amnesty, and shooting people on Fifth Avenue, then you’re obviously just part of the GOPe and not a real conservative!

After months of hiding off to the side and letting Trump basically take on the planet, and then benefiting from it, he has the damn nerve to say that?
