Cruz: Trump afraid to defend his record
The Hill ^ | January 27, 2016, 07:52 am | Mark Hensch

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said late Tuesday that Donald Trump's fear of defending his record is behind the GOP front-runner's boycott of the next Fox News GOP presidential debate.

"The reality is, the reason Donald is doing this — I actually don't think it's because of [Fox News host] Megyn [Kelly] at all," he said on Fox News's "Hannity."

"I think it's because he's afraid to defend his record, that he knows he can't defend his record, and he's trying to hide from the voters of Iowa," Cruz said six days from the first voting state's caucuses next Monday.

"He's not willing to stand up and explain why he supports Bernie Sanders-style, full-on socialized medicine, expanding ObamaCare so the federal government is in charge of our healthcare," he said, tying Trump with the Democratic presidential contender.

"He can't explain why today he supports taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood," Cruz added.

"He can't explain why he supported Obama's stimulus plan and supported Obama's TARP bail-out of the big banks. He doesn't want to answer those questions, and he refuses to show up."

Cruz argued that Trump's claims of bias from Kelly reveal he is not capable of confronting more powerful public figures.

"If you're afraid of Megyn Kelly, then you're going to be afraid of Hillary Clinton and you're going to be afraid of Vladimir Putin," he said.

"If you're afraid to have anyone ask a question, that does not bode well for what kind of commander in chief you'd make," the Texas lawmaker added.

Trump announced late Tuesday that he is skipping the seventh GOP presidential debate in Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday evening.

Kelly and Trump have publicly sparred since the first debate last August. The outspoken billionaire disliked her questions about his past remarks toward women.

Trump has already answered for his record. People change. He can’t be worse than the “conservatives” who just funded the baby killers who sell body parts. Get real, we need a winner this time around. America’s identity is at stake.

It wasnt a question. It was a personal attack by a overratted slag. Thank God for it. Trump has been #1 in the polls and only climbing higher with every new outrage. Stupid stunt by FOX. Payed off nicely for Trump. Maybe your confusing Mittens and Candy Crowley. Although it might have been worth him to show up at the debate to have her throw out! Get her outta here!!. Lol
Go Trump

Oh yeah, he’s real scared which is why he never backed down on immigration. I haven’t seen anyone come out as strongly for America, Americans and the second amendment as Trump has.

I saw the video of it again last night. It was a question — a rough one, but a legitimate one.

The essence of the question was, “Given certain things in your record, people have made this charge against you. How do you respond to that?”

That’s a legitimate question to any candidate, but Trump chose to take offense instead of taking the opportunity to answer the question and refute the charge. Why?

Several of us question if Cruz’s supporters even support him. They seem to have another agenda since with their nastiness and lies they will not convince others to support Cruz.

It’s going to be fun when Drudge puts up his post-debate poll and Trump *still* beats everyone else... and he’s not even there.

His criticism of Trump over this is pure political grandstanding and everyone ( almost) knows it

It is a big disappointment because it is intellectually dishonest from a man whose best asset is his intellect

Just shows Ted is another player, not Don Quixote

ASS!

Whats Trump doing? Focusing on politics. Whats an election? Politics?

Whats Trump say he’s gonna do? Reach across the aisle and work with Pelosi and the GOPe. Which means they get what they want and conservatives get the shaft.

Which is why we are in this mess.

Not at all. You can’t see the truth of Ted’s criticism, but most everyone else can.

That trump is hiding from the people of Iowa?

That appearing on a staged “ debate stage’ fronted by 3 hostile FOX hacks and the muslim and illegal alien hecklers they invited to “ participate” in the debate is gong to illuminate anyone in Iowa who hasn’t heard of or seen Trump?

Ok sure

Go for it Ted
Surely FOX and the invited hecklers are interested in letting the people of Iowa see a fair debate

So as a senator for 3 years, what has Ted done to forward the conservative agenda? TPA/TPP? Corker Amendment? All I have seen from him is speeches.

I loved it when he railed against the MSM in the debate and though he might start a movement. Alas, he did nothing after that except give a speech.

When Trump railed against the MSM, he told them to pound sand shove their debate.

Quit saying asinine things, Ted. I’m starting to regret voting for you for Texas Senator.

Cruz needs to tout his own wonderfulness rather than wasting his valuable media time attacking Trump. Apparently, that’s not possible because Trump is living in Cruz’s head rent free. Heck, even with Trump off the main debate stage, all Cruz does is attack Trump for not being there.
