As news spread of Donald Trump's intention to boycott the Republican debate this Thursday, Ted Cruz's national press secretary tweeted out that the Texas senator wished to challenge the GOP frontrunner to a "mano a mano."
Cruz made the remarks to Mark Levin on his radio show Tuesday night. "If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly," Cruz said, "I would like to invite him... to participate in a one-on-one debate, between me and Donald, mano a mano."

Cruz floated Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh as possible moderators -- but he also said he'd be willing to take him on with no moderator at all, should Trump prove to be afraid of all those people too.
He pondered how Trump could be commander-in-chief if he was "terrified of a TV host."

It is Cruz supporters freaking out about debate. Trumpsters do not care if he shows or not. Trump does not need it.

I realize you’re using “Televangelist” as a slight and an insult, much like Trump would. And, like Trump, I have to assume you, like Trump, Muslims and Democrats, haven’t much use for Christians.
Can’t argue that Trump has “dominated the media”, which isn’t all that big a feat for a celebrity and reality show star to do when he enters the political arena.
As for Cruz not being able to win (since Trump worshippers like to cite polls), you apparently haven’t seen the national polls that have Cruz doing better against Hillary and Sanders than Trump, but I’m sure that those aren’t sufficiently authoritative.

He expects a fair debate in the general. There hasn't been a single general election presidential debate in Trump's lifetime in which the moderators weren't all in for the Democrats. Any Republican who hopes to win has to be able to beat the Democrat plus the moderators. If Trump can't beat the moderators now he either needs the practice or is admitting he can't win in the fall. In addition to being afraid of catching cooties from Megyn. Maybe that's why he sold the pageant; he became scared of all those pretty girls.
There has to be some other reason than Kelly that he is not showing up. I think it is because he will not win Iowa and needs an out.
