Bernie Sanders: Of course I’ll raise your taxes. Why do you ask?

After last night’s town hall event on CNN where the Democrat candidates took a final opportunity to address the voters in Iowa, I came away with yet another thing to like about Vermont socialist Bernie Sanders. If nothing else, the guy has the admirable trait of honesty going for him. When the moderator asked if he wouldn’t need to jack up tax rates to put all of his wild eyed proposals into effect, he provided the sort of clarity we so rarely see in politicians. Of course he’s going to raise taxes! (Daily Caller)

Monday during the Democratic Forum hosted by CNN and moderated by Chris Cuomo, Sanders said, "Yes, we will raise, we will raise the, we will raise taxes, yes we will."

Sanders suggested, "But also, let us be clear Chris [Cuomo], because there's a little bit of disingenuity out there. We may raise taxes but we are also going to eliminate private health insurance premiums for individuals and for businesses."

Speaking of a little bit of disingenuity, the part that Bernie failed to mention is that his proposals add up to a staggering $18T over ten years. Even with the massive tax hikes he’s talking about, they only cover roughly $6.5T in new revenue over the same period. Now, math wasn’t my major in school, but wiser heads have already determined that this would be the largest expansion of national spending and debt since the massive buildup during World War 2. But unlike other politicians, Sanders was willing to own up to a piece of the tax hike, so he’s got that going for him.

I wonder if he realizes that he couldn’t even get the Democrats in Congress to sign on for those levels of taxes and spending?

For some reason, this reminded me of the “touching moment” during one of Bernie’s events which everyone was talking about yesterday. It took place when a young woman described how hard it was to raise children on her own on an income of $12K per year.

It's so hard to do anything to pay your bills, you're ashamed all the time…when you can't buy presents for your children it's really really really hard – and I work 3, 4, 5 jobs sometimes, always minimum wage, I have a degree, divorced and it's just I'm waiting for disability to come through so my parents have to support me – it's just hard.

The woman was clearly depressed and had a lot on her mind, but if you watch the video at the link you’ll see that Bernie missed out on a couple of opportunities here. For one thing, he stayed at the podium rather than going down to comfort her one on one. But in terms of this tax policy discussion, there was another piece of low hanging fruit he missed. Just think how much better it would have been if Sanders had walked up to the woman, put his hand on her shoulder, and said, “Don’t worry, young lady. After my plans go into effect the rest of the country will be in the same boat as you so we can all commiserate together. Well… not actually me, of course. I’ll be living in a mansion overlooking the reflecting pool making a half million a year. But the rest of you shall stand in solidarity.”

Man… I missed my calling. I should be his speech writer.

As another FReeper clarified:
Bernie is a communist.
Communists make no bones about taking everything you have outright to cover costs.
When they say “from each according to their means”, communists mean it. Everything beyond minimum standard of living can & will be taken.

Socialists play games with taxation & debt, trying to hide the true cost.
Communists know the true cost, and you’re going to pay it.

The fact that a 74 year old Socialist Senator from a small almost entirely white state is polling above 1% is simply proof that even the Democrats do not want to vote for Hillary.

Great little candidate you have there.

Looking at Trump's tax plan, My tax rate will be reduced by 5%. My girlfriend's tax rate will be reduced from 15% to 0%. The plan itself will add about $10,000 to our household income every year it is in effect. That's 40 large in his first term in our pocket.

Bernie Sanders. on the other hand, wishes to raise my taxes by 2.2%.

Why would anyone that works for a living vote for this crazy old communist?

Well I did say only "one good thing" about him.

I'll say one good thing about Charlie Manson too. He's in prison.

Trump’s plan adds $10,000 per year to the RCone household income. That’s $40,000 in our pockets in his first term as President. This should be a no brainer for anyone that works for a living. Get rich or get fu**ed. Take your pick America.

Here’s our winner then: the American people love tax hikes: it makes them think new goodies are on the horizon.

Donald Trump’s tax cuts will put $40,000 into our bank account over the first 4 years of its implementation. Bernie Sanders will raise my taxes 2.2% and take about $10,000 out of my pocket over the same period of time. My rage will have no end if this SOB gets elected.

That is awesome. I just hope Trump gets the nomination. I really hope he gets Iowa so we can wrap this primary up and get on with beating whoever wins the Democratic nomination. I think the sooner we know our nominee the better.

here's the Tax Policy Center study on Donald Trump's tax plan if you or anyone else wants to see what it will do for your annual household income. table 1 pretty much tells the story. It's a real good story. The ending is especially happy.

"Bernie Sanders: Of course I’ll raise your taxes."

I'll raise your taxes until there is no gain from productivity left to tax. Then I will tax your future earnings based on your "ability" and give it to the poor downtrodden victims of those of you with talent and work ethic according to their needs. Just who decides what your ability is and what your contemporary parasites needs are? Why me of course! Do you see how wonderfully that works out?

Here’s an idea:

How about we pay off the debt and THEN we can discuss raising taxes?

Of course we’ll be dead by then.

Isn't that supposed to be for the disabled?

Of course you will lose all of your freedoms just like they did in the Soviet Union.

Why do you ask?

With all due respect to Sen. Sanders, low-information Sanders is another excellent example why the ill-conceived 17th Amendment should never have been ratified.

Regarding misguided Sanders wanting to raise taxes, please consider the following. As mentioned in related threads, a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified that Congress is prohibited from appropriating taxes in the name of state power issues, basically anything that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.

”Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” - Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

Note that one of the very few things that the states have actually authorized the feds to tax and spend for where domestic policy is concerned is the US Mail Service (1.8.7). In other words, most federal government spending programs are based on 10th Amendment-protected state powers and associated state revenues that corrupt Congress has stolen from the states by means of unconstitutional federal taxes.

Remember in November !

When patriots elect Trump or Cruz or whatever conservative they elect, they need to also elect a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will work within its Section 8-limited powers to support the president.

Also consider that such a Congress would probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.
