Donald Trump argued that radio host Glenn Beck -- who has endorsed Ted Cruz -- can't vote for Cruz in his state's primary Saturday because he is no longer a registered Republican. For Trump, this provides proof that Beck is "dumb as rock."
"Word is that crying @GlennBeck left the GOP and doesn't have the right to vote in the Republican primary. Dumb as a rock," Trump tweeted Saturday.
If true, this would serve as rich irony for many observers. Trump has been hit for his fleeting party affiliation history, but is, by all accounts, currently a registered Republican in his home state of New York.
The deeply conservative Beck, however, actually left the Republican Party in March 2015, citing frustration that the establishment was blocking the efforts of lawmakers like Cruz. It is unclear whether Beck ever formally registered as an independent, or other party, thus deregistering as a Republican. Beck principally resides in the suburbs of Fort Worth, Texas, and is presumably registered to vote there. Texas Republicans hold a "closed primary" where only registered Republicans can vote. If Beck is no longer one, Trump is correct in that though Beck may endorse Cruz, he cannot actually vote for him himself for the primary.
"I've made my decision -- I'm out. I'm out of the Republican Party," Beck said in March 2015. "I am not a Republican."

It’s ok. He probably plans on voting for Ted in the Canadian primary.
Looks like a freak show.
I’m not a Republican. I was all my adult life until they reelected Boehner. But I am still about a continent to the right of Trump.
Did someone forget to tell Trump that an endorser doesn’t have to be in the same political party as an endorsee?
Ted Cruz is no more an hispanic than I am. He couldn’t order off a Mexican menu unless it was in English.
We think Ted should make Beck his Veep pick. After all the coveted support of so great a conservative as Beck would seem to warrant closer association.
Fraudulent tears. a charlatan, an actor, deceitful, not to be believed, con-man, hustler....
I have to say...which one of us HAS NOT been so ticked off at the GOP that we’ve thought about telling them what they could do with themselves?
But it is sort of funny that Ted’s big endorsement is coming from such a nut case.
“- 1987 Democrat
87-99 Republican
99-01 Reform Party (Ross for boss)
01-09 Democrat
09-11 Independent (liked san fran nan and hillary though)
2012 - Republican.
The political wanderings of DJT.”
That has proven to be not true. Trumps New York voter registration from at least 1988 show he has been a Republican all these years.
Race card reasons?? Not even about qualifications??? Some tweet.
Endorse, but cannot even vote for the guy???
What a hilarious event this was.
Newpapers found Trump has been a Republican since 1980 that is 35 years. In New York they keep good records.

I am not either.
I don’t consider it a dumb thing to do.
I did it after McConnell and Jebby along with many others in the GOP decided to ditch the tea party and conservatives in favor of the moderates and democrats for the party election base.
They did not need me, so I did not need them.
It was not a easy thing to do. I wrestled with it for some time....months...
I’m not sure why Trump thinks this is a dumb thing. maybe it’s because we are so very dumb pompous and principled morons..
A lot of FR people have done this too in recent years and disenfranchised themselves in the process. I tried to warn some of them with specific posts.
It’s cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Beck is a neocon, open borders loon. Why Cruz would want this guy anywhere near him is beyond me, unless Cruz supports what Beck is pushing.
Is that confirmed? Heidi and her activities are an issue because (1) she is on leave (not resigned) from Goldman Sachs and (2) she is involved in fund raising for the campaign
If Beck votes in TX, he can vote for Cruz on March 1. If he lived in District 121, he could vote against Joe Straus for state House Speaker too.
In TX though, one cannot disenfranchise himself this way for the March 1 primary.
