Cruz’s plan to beat Clinton: Tell the truth
The Hill ^ | January 23, 2016 | Bradford Richardson

Posted on 01/23/2016 12:51:49 PM PST by Isara

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz says he hates the conventional wisdom that the only way for a conservative to win a general election is to run as a "Democrat-lite."

"How do we win?" Cruz asked voters at an Exeter, N.H., rally earlier this week, according to the Associated Press.

"Washington consultants always say 'the way you win is you run to the middle.' You run to the mushy middle, you blur the distinctions," he added. "Every time we do that, we lose."

The Texas senator said he prefers his approach, which he characterized as "telling the truth with a smile."

"That's how we win - with a clear contrast," he said.

Cruz pointed to the failed candidacies of Bob Dole, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Mitt Romney, who were all perceived to be moderates in the party, to support his position.

"What they did didn't work," he said. "We've got to do something different."

Only moderate Republicans can win! Just ask Presidents Dole, McCain and Romney. Oh I forgot, they all lost.

I am old enough to remember when the GOPe collectively cried in anguish about how Reagan was too conservative to be elected and nominating him would guarantee Carter would win.

So what happens after no candidate wins a majority in the first vote?

What is Ted going to beat Clinton at? Checkers, badminton, a game of pool?

(Cruz - Carly looks like the probable ticket as of now)

If anything, that would be even MORE of a reason to not vote for Cruz!!

Oh please, I hope the run with that through the primaries! No one would come CLOSE to supporting a ticket w FioRINO

There is only one vote.

I don’t believe a non-incumbent has ever won a majority in the Iowa caucuses. GW Bush had the highest at around 40% in 2000. Typical ‘winners’ have 25-35%.

Re>I’ve seen no burned bridges.

Well I cannot make the blind see. I will ask how much support you think he has a Senator. How many hold grudges against him even people in his own party. The American farmer is struggling taking away a little support to that farmer in Iowa is not a wise thing to tell the corn belt.

I do not like ethanol subsidies but some things need to be left unspoken.

Interestingly I've never heard Cruz's position on: States Rights? Eminent Domain? BLM overreach?

In the time it took for you to type your post, you could have found on the internet the answers to all your questions.

And BTW, conservatives call it "state powers", not "states rights".

That’s impossible. You’re a liar.

Cruz needs to start by telling the truth about his citzenship, his loans, his hate of New Yorkers values, his soft illegal alien stance. That would be a good start.

I’m not a Carly fan in any way either.

I am.

Every candidate has some imperfections, but she is tough, smart and understands what good values are vs. NY values.

That's impossible. You're a liar.

Open up three google windows - 6 seconds.

Type in three search strings - 12 seconds

Click on the first link in each window - 3 seconds

Quickly scan the three articles looking for Ted's positions - 45 seconds.

It's possible. You're an idiot.

Cruz just seems to burn every bridge he crosses.

I don't think so. On ethanol he is showing you can believe he sticks with what he says. Others get put off because he won't bend, or "play the game", but in the end that's who I have been praying for. If he says he's pro-life I can believe him. If he says he's pro 2nd amendment I can believe him. If he says he is going to close fed agencies I believe him. I don't see him reaching over and making deals with Rats that are all to the benefit of the Rats and undermine conservative principals.

Gonna be a helluva plan since he won’t be the nominee.

There is a detail one must look at. To do any of these things he needs to win. He isn’t winning.

Been at FR since 11/15/15

Are you aware this is a conservative website?

Conservatives hate NY values. We believe in Pro-life, God, country, family, 2nd Amendment. We do not believe in abortion, socialism, anti-2nd amendment, pro big govt.

Maybe you should try DU where like minded libs post, if it's still around.

The mushy middle is what thrives in the beltway. It’s what the consultants know; they’re the functional equivalent of a three year old with a hammer.

Defeating Democrats with the truth hasn’t been tried since Reagan. They’ll never see it coming AND Mrs. Clinton certainly can’t compete with it.

Go Cruz!
