On Fridayâs âThe Five,â panelist Jesse Watters questioned the critics of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump who voiced their concerns about the candidate in a so-called manifesto about Trump published in the latest issue of National Review. Watters said Trump has qualities beyond conservative ideology that make him appealing as the eventual GOP nominee.

There are no pure conservatives. But for once could we nominate a candidate who comes from the conservative wing of the Republican party? I mean is that too much to ask after a lifetime of Rockefeller Republicans? Except of course RR.
Most people don’t read the NR, and I’ll be willing to bet that most never even heard of it. So, it will actually have little negative effect, but it could show once again, that Trump is under attack by the republican establishment, which will increase support for him.
The question I ask is, could a conservative wing candidate from the GOP survive the possible onslaught the Dem socialists?
LOL! NRO is not even close to “pure conservatism.” Glenn Beck? Russell Moore? Bill Kristol? What a joke.
It’s odd how NR’s critics can’t agree on whether NR is promoting “fake” conservatism” or overly-pure conservative “ideology.”
If NR represents the “Republican establishment,” why did the RNC throw them out of the next debate because of their opposition to Trump?
I will naturally promote and vote for the person chosen to run against Hillary, but comparisons like this give me pause about the feverish atmosphere surrounding Trump that seems a lot like what we witnessed 8 years ago.
They don’t want Trump to walk with his army . The Repubs would surely lose if Trump walks or has the nomination stolen from him .
I stopped subscribing as my interests changed, and since WFB, Jr. died, didn't give it another thought.
As for NR in pop culture, in an early Woody Allen movie, he goes into a porn and/or newspaper shop, and NR's prominently hanging among the [gay?] porn mags.
Don't remember if that was before or after Allen was on Firing Line, let alone the movie.
“Watters said Trump has qualities beyond conservative ideology that make him appealing as the eventual GOP nominee.”
So what this goof is saying is that we don’t need to worry about principles, because we have a deus ex machina who will fix all of our problems with a simple wave of his pompadour.
And we skeptics the naive ones...
“The question I ask is, could a conservative wing candidate from the GOP survive the possible onslaught the Dem socialists?”
Prpobably not! Too many “free $hit” folks living here today. This is Obola’s
“real legacy,” dependency!
“If NR represents the âRepublican establishment,â why did the RNC throw them out of the next debate because of their opposition to Trump?”
Pay no attention to the may behind the curtain! It’s hard to imagine a more convoluted and dishonest bunch as those who “think they run the GOP!”
If a committed, eloquent (read Ted Cruz) conservative cannot defeat Hillary “Benghazi” Clinton or Bernie “Crazy Socialist Uncle” Sanders then America, as we remember it, is already dead.
America elected Reagan, couldn’t we try one more time before giving up?
Not odd at all considering NRO can’t seem to make up it’s own mind, judging by their roster.
They don’t want Trump to leave the debate, because the ratings would drop like a rock.
NR has always (starting with WFB Jr.) taken up arms in protecting the right from its own self-destructive elements. Buckley did it with the Birchers way back when, and they did it with that loony anti-Semite Buchanan a few decades later. (Ironically enough, Buchnan sought refuge in the same kooky Reform Party that Trump tried to weasel his way into as a left-of-center populist.)
The fact they’re doing it again in the face of the NYC liberal should surprise nobody - it’s what people who have things like “convictions” and “core beliefs” actually do. I applaud them for it.
Isn’t it time we find out? I mean I’m getting old Big. :-)
