Tried to read the link since I wanted to know why only 56 years. Too many pop ups etc so I bailed.

I only got 1 pop-up. I guess 1 is too many.
He was convicted of 2nd degree murder.

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either satire or opinion. Or both.)

Really wow when the different between a good hair cut and a bad one is two weeks.
Of course I gave up caring about hair a long time ago.

And the bad part? His hair would’ve grown back out by now no matter how bad it was.
But, the guy’s still dead.

Reminded me of a black kid I had in Korea who went down to the Vill and got elaborate design cut into his hair (contrary to AR 760-1). He tried to hide it by never removing his cap.
I did an open ranks inspection the next morning and had them remove their headgear. When I got to him I said "Specialist Smith, is that the result of some terrible medical experiment gone wrong or are you just violating my beloved Army Regulations?" He said "I'm going to the barber right after formation, Sergeant." "Hoo-Ahh!"
He was a good kid and this was so out of character for him and he took crap from the other troops for a week.

I'd have to see the haircut to decide if the sentence was appropriate. Killing a friend over a petty disagreement means he'll probably be out in less than 10 years. When I was young, killing a spouse after an argument used to result in actually serving about 7 years; particularly egregious cases would run it over 10, but the domestic violence activist have run that up a bit.
The sentence given in court has very little to do with the time actually served in most state systems. (Feds, it actually means something).

Donnell McGilberry, 22, shot Oakland resident Coty Luster on April 26, 2012 in the 1100 block of 34th Street. When Luster called McGilberry a "bitch" for having a red mohawk, McGilberry told his girlfriend that he would kill Luster, prosecutor Patrick Moriarty said at trial. McGilberry shot Luster five times, including three shots to the groin area.
