Dear Northeast Freepers:
Please check-in to let us know that you're safe. If you want to share your blizzard experiences- whether funny or scary - we're listening. If you need something, please say so. Maybe we can help or get word to someone who can.

OMG!
That’s worse than snow!
East of 495 here——no snow but I just came in and the east wind is really picking up.
.
This is a good day for lots of hot chocolate kiddo. Nice to see you again.
No time for that.
Gotta get the dogs and goats a clear place to move around in outside.
I shoveled Seven a path on the way to the shop door, tossed her out and all she did was look from one side of the icy canyon to the other, and then back at me like “WTH?”
LOL
Some concerned citizen even asked if she should allow her children to go outside!
Stay safe North Easterners. God Bless.
Sometimes we sure act like wusses anyway!
Bristol, PA...powder. Cool drifts. No snow around jeep or on north side of house (grass is showing) but seeing the southside drift, I think I could spend ONE day in the desert taking pics. Would rather be in the mountains.
I did.
Interesting.
We lived in lake effect snow country for quite a while and we still occasionally get hit with lake snow events, although by the time they get this far south, we only see an inch or two an hour.
Lake effect bands move so you can look out the window one minute and the sun will be out and literally the next minute be looking at a white out.
People are such idiots.
Now a foot or more is likely and we are still on the northern fringe of the storm.
I went to the grocery store early this morning. People in the aisles had panic in their eyes and were filling their carriages to the brim. I never understood the need to stockpile during a storm. By this time tomorrow, the storm will be over, the roads will be plowed, and we'll be on our way back to normal.
I was just there to get some fresh produce and a few odds and ends. Making turkey soup today and I have a fire going in my fireplace. Have Donald Trump's rally on the big screen.
Cheers from Clinton NJ.....
I saw that sign yesterday. It was (is) on the Northern State Parkway on Long Island.
Regards,
PS: Still snowing here in Suffolk County, Long Island. VERY windy by my house. An unpleasant snow. I’d say we’re up over 12” so far...maybe 18”. The snow is very drifty, with places that appear to have very little snow, and others where the snow is 3-5 feet high (against fences and buildings).
It’s now snowing heavily here. It started at about 1:00. One minute, nothing. The next minute, heavy snow.
Now reporting 15 inches at 1:00 PM in Brooklyn Heights.
I have family in NY, they got 12” over night.
Any idea how much your are is expecting?
Stay safe and warm.
Thanks, Jane!
This morning they were saying 1-3 inches. In 2005, for a storm in February, they said 2-4. We got 22 inches.
I never count on anything in winter. :)
Well, it may feel pretty cold and windy up there, but the statistics don’t support your statement that blizzards and -40 days are the norm.
Minot ND which is the closest reliable weather reporting city (the Minot AFB) to where you are talking about, had one blizzard last year. Minot averages about 8” of snow per month for Dec through Mar which is about 1/6th of the averages for Syracuse NY. And, there is not a single month where the average daily low temperature is below zero. There is not a single day ever that the temperature was recorded at -40, and there was only one January snowfall in the past 10 years over a foot.
So, I am sure you feel like there was a lot of weather hardship in upper ND, but then we all think about these things with a little euphoric recall.
Wow...I can’t even imagine what that much snow would even look like, not to mention living it!!
As long as the heat and the internets keep working, you should be good, right? ;-)
