With Ted Cruz clinging to a narrow lead in the fast-approaching Iowa caucuses, an increasingly vocal chorus of evangelical leaders and campaign rivals is questioning the authenticity of the candidateâs vaunted Christian faith by pointing to his reportedly meager record of charitable giving. In a series of interviews this week, political opponents and pastors alike suggested Cruz â an avowed Baptist who is aggressively courting evangelical voters â has flouted the Biblical commandment of tithing in his personal life.

Not as desperate as the donald.
Luke 18:9-14 NIV
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:
10 âTwo men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: âGod, I thank you that I am not like other peopleârobbers, evildoers, adulterersâor even like this tax collector.
12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.â
13 âBut the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, âGod, have mercy on me, a sinner.â
14 âI tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.â
“Do not let the left hand know what the right hand is doing.”
There is no obligation to trumpet your giving.
You “may” report it to the IRS, but you’re not required.
It’s nobody’s business how much a person gives to his church.
Every day there’s a new low in political discourse. When in the past did a candidate’s tithing to the church ever come up as an issue?
Funny how no one even considered asking Trump the same question. Ah, the double-standards of the left.
Stupid Article alert.
Don’t care. I’m a Trump supporter, I don’t care. It’s a stupid topic on what Cruz tithes or not. Everytime Cruz gets up and politically evangelizes to the choir, the less people are going to vote for him.
I know people that can’t get past the turn-off of Cruz evangelizing, and these people are not atheists. They re secular conservatives who don’t mind a mention of God and his role in the world, but they do mind being actually preached to by a politician.
Everyone knows Trump is about as Christian as “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, so I don’t think this angle would work with him.
Go away, Shuckster.
Some people report their tithing to the IRS, some don’t.
Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and render unto God what is God’s.
Some people are uncomfortable with reporting it because it comes out to them as asking Caesar for a tax break when you render unto God, which isn’t the objective of tithing.
For what its worth, I always thought it was unseemly to take a deduction for your offerings at church.
That’s between Cruz and God.
Sheesh, busybodies.
Only a couple of years back Huck was telling us that it was unchristian to try and secure the border. He said it not once but several times. This year, as he runs for president, he is a border hawk. Its good to see he has moved our way, even if its just during election season.
Huck needs to step back and think about what he is doing. This is a very dangerous attitude to expose on a Fellow Christian Brother.....
If Huck is aggrieved by something Cruz has or has not done, he needs to take it up with the CHURCH, not the public, that is what Christ admonished us to do. Don't hang your dirty wash out for all to see and mock. Shame on Huck.
Huck "a Christian" is casting stones........and CRUZ will not/should not respond.
Says a lot about Huck's character., or lack thereof...
Not an issue.
Huck made a big Christian error in this one.....
How far should it go? Percentage of Sundays at church service? Hours spent in Bible study?
Don’t think this will gain traction for Cruz’s opponents. We’re all imperfect beings, and when it comes to how well Cruz serves the Lord - I’ll leave that to the boss.
Not disagreeing, but we are to take it up with our brother first... THEN the church.
