Trump blames 'Two Corinthians’ gaffe on Tony Perkins
The Hill ^ | January 21, 2016 | Bradford Richardson

Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump late Wednesday pinned blame for his scriptural gaffe - saying "Two Corinthians" instead of "Second Corinthians" - on evangelical activist Tony Perkins.

"Tony Perkins wrote that out for me - he actually wrote out the 2, he wrote out the number 2 Corinthians," Trump said on "CNN Tonight with Don Lemon." "I took exactly what Tony said, and I said, 'Well, Tony has to know better than anybody.'"

The slip-up drew laughs from the crowd at evangelical Liberty University and has called into question the religiosity of the billionaire businessman.

But Trump said he has since heard from "a lot of people" who tell him that he was actually correct.

"It's a very small deal, but a lot of people in different sections of the world say 'two,' and I've had many, many people say to me," he said.

"My mother, as you know, was from Scotland, and they say two," he added.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Trump is a liberal who will stoop at absolutely nothing for his own self-aggrandizement. But this is lame. I’ve often referred to “two corinthians eleven one through nineteen” or the like. If you’re going to insist its “second corinthians,” why not go all the way and insist it’s “the second epistle of Saint Paul to the Corinthians?”

I could overlook the “2 Corinthians”, but Trump sounded awkward citing the verse.

Of course, that’s no big deal. He makes it one by blaming Perkins.

And I completely agree, I’ve never seen Trump looks so awkward and uncomfortable as he was in front of that Liberty U group.

Pandering will do that to a man.

How many have NEVER made a slip of the tongue when making a statement or giving a speech?

<><><><

Oh please, you’re ignoring the salient point. It’s not the gaffe, it’s the deflection of responsibility. Not my fault, blame it on Perkins.

Poor Trump knows so little about church and the Bible that somebody's got him convinced saying "Two Corinthians" was a gaffe.

However, DC is a sewer, not a church, and Trump is the man to start straightening s*** out down there.

Its so bad it almost needs no comment:

Could you imagine what Trump would say if Ben Carson or Ted Cruz read a stock report, and read the stock symbol "XOM" literally, instead of saying Exxon-Mobil, even if that's how Warren Buffett wrote it out for him?

Trump is out of his element when he tries this stuff every time. Worse, he doesn't know what he doesn't know.

Give him credit though, he doesn't have screeners (other than Tony Perkins, who assumed he knew something that any high-schooler or well-read person should have known) filtering stuff for him. I also suspect that Donald Trump knows how to pronounce "corpsman".

“Even when Trump explains how he is a complete phony ...”

Isn’t that bewildering? Trump admits that he didn’t mean what he said, that he was simply reading a teleprompter, and Trump fans cheer on his phoniness. Unreal.

This is what a cult looks like. A cult of personality. Facts no longer matter. Truth no longer matters. Just winning, at all costs.

That’s a deeply unattractive photo. He looks like a televangelist. I guess the 800 number was left off the screen shot!

"It's a very small deal, but a lot of people in different sections of the world say 'two,' and I've had many, many people say to me," he said.

That is a legit answer. Leave it at that. Why throw Tony Perkins under the bus?

I guess when you’ve never been wrong... and have never needed forgiveness... anything that goes wrong must be someone else’s fault.

It must be rough being immaculately conceived.

That's Trump. That's what he does. ART OF THE DEAL! He's a negotiator. He can't show all of his cards. He can't say what he means!

BUT, somehow, his supporters know just what he means and just what he'll do. He's on the upside of every negotiation. Well, except for his negotiation with voters.

He's telling them the truth and it's an even deal.

He’s a 69 year old spoiled brat. People need to think long and hard about handing the reins of the country to that.

Right. Like Tony Perkins is going to say, “2 Corinthians”. And who are these people who are telling him he was “actually correct”? Trump’s hubris knows no bounds. The man seems to be pathological in his constant confidence that he is, and has been, right about everything, which cannot possibly true because he has changed his positions on so many issues.

Tony Perkins is a Cruz supporter.
Maybe he intentionally wanted Trump to make a devastating theological Biblical mistake.
Whatever.
I can only speak for myself: From henceforth, this Trumpeteer will forever fondly think of TWO CORINTHIANS when reading my Bible, and pause to say a prayer for my President . . Donald Trump.
