Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump late Wednesday pinned blame for his scriptural gaffe - saying "Two Corinthians" instead of "Second Corinthians" - on evangelical activist Tony Perkins.
"Tony Perkins wrote that out for me - he actually wrote out the 2, he wrote out the number 2 Corinthians," Trump said on "CNN Tonight with Don Lemon." "I took exactly what Tony said, and I said, 'Well, Tony has to know better than anybody.'"
The slip-up drew laughs from the crowd at evangelical Liberty University and has called into question the religiosity of the billionaire businessman.
But Trump said he has since heard from "a lot of people" who tell him that he was actually correct.
"It's a very small deal, but a lot of people in different sections of the world say 'two,' and I've had many, many people say to me," he said.
"My mother, as you know, was from Scotland, and they say two," he added.
Yeah. That's kind of important.
If he lies about small things and passes the blame onto others over small errors, can we expect him to behave differently with big things?
yep.. small potatoes... BUT a true “ tale tale” to many.
Although he did read his statement in support of increasing the ethanol mandates from a piece of paper.
Telling, that.
Lovely post! You said what I was trying to say.
Well said, all of your post.....It would have better that TRUMP not even enter into an area of which he knows nothing about.
But he's a Presby, I have mommy's bible, I have dinner at the church with the wine and little crackers and it makes me feel good. The man has no CLUE what Communion means.
Reminds me of Bill Clinton and his fake tears.....are they looking, do they buy it?
If during all this, he finally begins a search through the Bible and becomes a true believer, we can all rejoice in that,,,,,,until then
Sounds like someone else we know...........HELLARY CLINTON.
A vast right-wing conspiracy.
Funny that (works for both).
Not at all surprising.
It’s not a gaffe to say 2 corinthians. I’ve pastored 50 years and say 2 corinthians all the time. I have advanced degrees and a military Chaplain career. You vary how you speak of Scripture. 2 Co, 2 John, 2 Samuel etc. All are fair game. It’s silly to say otherwise.
And people can support Christianity without being a strong Christian or even being a non-Christian. Trump has said "I'll be the best friend Christians ever had." and "Christianity is under assault. We've got to stop that."
Agree.
There seem to be a lot of people these days who, like Trump, consider themselves Christians, but do little or nothing to practice their religion. It seems to be a vague concept with them. It’s like saying “I’m a nice person” without being able to point to any particular nice thing you’ve done. But you like to think of yourself as a “nice person.”
Don’s starting to lose me a bit.
Truthfully, it wasn’t an issue before this. But his defense is so classless and clueless, and INCOHERENT that the defense becomes an issue.
I think we can expect him to lie on big things. I like Cruz then Trump but Trump’s appeal is deteriorating. What’s revealing about Trump is his bio (politically) on Wikipedia:
“Trump’s party affiliation has changed over the years. Until 1987, he was a Democrat.[4] Then he was a Republican from 1987â99.[3] He then switched to the Reform Party from 1999â2001.[3] From 2001â09 he was a Democrat again,[3] and switched to the Republican Party again from 2009â11.[3] An independent from 2011â12, he returned to the Republican Party where he has remained from 2012âpresent”
I find that disturbing!
That, and his hairstyle, which should offend TRUE conservatives everywhere! It triggers them!
How much Bible do you know intimately? Are you a theologian or just another person who can find fault in someone for not knowing any more than you do on the topic?
Hypocrisy is hypocrisy even when one doesn't recognize it in him/herself.
This is true of everybody in politics. I made a very modest donation to Mitch McConnell's challenger a couple of years ago (he lost but is now the governor of Kentucky), and you should see the stream of appeals I get now, esp. from the RNC, which has broad access to "K" Street money and New England robber-baron fortunes. And they need my money?
Yes, they will ask.
Which is the real "takeaway" here. Other politicians have done this (Eisenhower used to do it all the time, although his smallness is now dwarfed by that of Obama -- if you'll pardon the oxymoron).
If I had to find a word to sum up Trump's character, "expediency" would be a finalist. Conservatives who've married their hopes to Trump are standing on a banana peel, and I think they'll realize that before the election, when he turns his attention to the "general population".
If he doesn't deliver on immigration (by repealing the 1965 Act as a national failure, for example), it's "game over" just as if we'd elected Hillary.
“I have heard people refer to it that way before. Non-issue is right.”
So have I. While in Baptist Seminary. Usually by speakers and ministers not from the U.S.
Such vital information! Thanks for sharing.
I feel so very sad for you, I truly do.
How is George Will holding up these days?

Very.
A lot of change. Not a lot of hope.
