Islam needs a radical reformation; not a radical Islam.

That's clever, but it makes me think:

A lot of very smart people who mean well have been talking about the Christian Reformation lately and suggesting that this is just what is needed.

In fact, the Reformation solved very few problems. If anything, it made Christianity more violent and inhumane.

What actually began to "solve" Christianity were the secular advances of the Enlightment, followed by the lessons learned (and hopefully retained) from two devastating World Wars in the 20th Century.

But back to the Reformation. I always think Western people are making a mistake when they suggest our solutions would work for Islam's problems. They have different values, beliefs and desires than we do.

Isn't it also fair to suggest that Islam is indeed undergoing a Reformation right now, as we speak -and its not the Reformation we wanted or expected?
