We are currently experiencing both and it is challenging.
I pray FR survives this election. Our forum has never been so divided. But even more so, I pray our divided nation survives. If traitor Hillary or communist Sanders is elected, it will be difficult to continue as a free nation without invoking certain clauses in the Declaration. Our constitution is certainly being put to the test.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness
God is in charge. The original colonies were established mostly in the name of Judeo-Christianity and primarily for religious freedom. And our current government was founded on Judeo-Christian principles.
Republican, democrat, conservative, liberal, progressive are all political constructs and are useful, but are not the ultimate causes.
God, family, country, liberty are our causes.
We are all created in God's image. God gave us life and liberty. He taught us how to live, how to work, how to fend for ourselves and family, how to govern ourselves, how to defend ourselves our family our country, and how to worship and be faithful. Most of us on FR believe He had a mighty hand on the founding of our nation and that we should continue seeking Him as our guiding light.
Today we are caught up in what could very well be the climatic struggle for our nation's survival. We've been struggling in this nation against godless progressivism for at least 100 years. And, of course, against Satanic Islamic totalitarianism for 1400 years. Now we have the godless progressives, Marxist communists and Satanic Islamic fascist totalitarians all joining forces to try for the final destruction of our Judeo-Christian nation.
We are being invaded from within and without and we will fail as a nation if we do not recognize this and we fail to unite as a free people under God to fight for our survival.
At first I was very skeptical about Donald Trump entering the race. I'm a great believer in Ted Cruz and his godly conservatism. And I pray that if he's the candidate, that the nation bands together and grants him a landslide victory and a mandate to secure our nation and set it back on the righteous path.
But I have to admit that Trump surprised me and got my patriotic emotions stirring again. He is obviously not the evangelical constitutional conservative that Cruz is, but does appear to be a powerful leader with a love for America and freedom. And he's proving that he can pull in large crowds and great numbers in the polls.
As I said, I was skeptical at first, but after watching him campaign and learning some of the details about his Reagan-like tax plan and his determination to secure our borders and secure our nation I became a little more interested. And his non-PC approach to handling the media and the GOPe intrigued me.
His bold statements that we should build a wall, enforce the law, deport them ALL, end the sanctuary cities, end the anchor babies were shocking to most of the political class, but as his polling numbers attest, are exactly what the people want. Even more shocking were his bold statements of going after the families and the mosques of the terrorists and even slapping a moratorium on Muslim immigration. Shocking, but again, exactly what we need if we are to survive the war the Muslims are waging against us.
The political class to a man immediately rejected these bold statements as being unconstitutional and un-American, but as they see the people are for them, they are starting to come around.
Am I totally sold on Trump? Not yet. But if he continues as he is and doesn't blowup, he could very well be our nominee. And if so, I will support him to the hilt.
We have two great candidates in Cruz and Trump and I hope neither are knocked out too soon. We have RINO amnesty pimps Rubio, Kasich, Bush, et al, lurking just behind. And the GOPe is far from dead.
Go, Cruz, Go!
Go, Trump, Go!
Either way, we win, they lose.
And I pray one of these two gets it and that we can all join forces against the true enemy when he does.

I agree, I am much more focused on figuring out who I can trust in my ‘holler’ (just moved to the Appalachian Mountains) - going Galt and preparing for civil unrest.
I really don’t think anybody we elect can change course fast enough, since Congress likes the status quo. $19T is unsustainable. Even if nothing happens, I’m happy to not be supporting this fascist government and living a simple life close to God’s creations.
So yes, in the big picture, the tiffs here are irrelevant.

For what it's worth, I don't think we're nearly as divided as we were eight years ago when many FReepers were pushing Rudy.
I think it is unrealistic to support both Trump and Cruz equally when Cruz has not settled the birth issue. I’m just sayin. Do we really need the dems going after him on this if Cruz gets the nomination? I’m all in for Trump!
Exactly - I LOVE Cruz, but don't hate Trump and will vote for the R nominee happily. What I won't do is criticize either of the men OR their followers. Why is that so hard for people to do? Conservatives of good will can have valid disagreements, but we're still rooting for the same side.

Thank you for this post. I was feeling pretty low about the state of discourse here and yet somehow I missed this. Today I was told some Cruz supporters basically flipped you off. Haven’t seen evidence but that is so sad.
I was definitely feeling from a lot of threads and comments that the FReeper on FReeper macro aggression was coming more from Cruz supporters than Trump. Most of us ready to vote for Trump have spent careful time explaining why. Most of us really like Cruz. I sent him $ before Donald announced.
On this thread, one excellent point is that the Cruz supporters, with venom to their opponents, will not convince a single one of them, so there is no actual point to any hostility.
It is difficult to allow people who feel differently their opinions, but we need to. I hope Cruz supporters will continue to explain why they don’t trust Trump and how they think there is any chance for Cruz to win. I listen and think about those kinds of arguments. I will continue to explain my opinion that we aren’t in a 20th century election season where we all go for the most conservative candidate no matter what. Why the only man to expose the media had to be a very wealthy man who was blackmail proof, who had his children and grandchildren independently protected. Let’s all discuss these issues and hoped for outcomes.

And I would actually be excited about Rubio as a VP candidate for Trump if he gives Trump a better shot at winning the nomination. I have a lot of (legal) Hispanics working for me. They don't pay a lot of attention to our politics. They don't read our news or watch our news channels. I get the sense from what I read on FR that people here are not aware of just how much they despise Donald Trump. They only know what they have been told: That Donald Trump is a racist, who hates them and wants to deport them. All of them.
I expect that to change to some extent when the race is narrowed down to two candidates -most likely Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump. The values that you speak of are a lot closer to the ones shared by the legal Hispanic community in this country than are Mrs. Clinton's. However, if the election were held tomorrow, I believe that they would show up en masse to vote against Mr. Trump.
