Today we saw someone who was once a rising star in the conservative world explode in an inglorious display of crass opportunism.
Sarah Palin, that darling of a failed John McCain presidential bid, has resurfaced to throw her voice and her support behind the gilded toad of the GOP, Donald Trump. Where she was once a strong Tea Party leader, promoting free market ideas, limited government, and power back in the hands of the people, today she forsook it all, in favor of a big government, foul mouthed, Wall Street liberal with atrocious hair.
Far too often, we see that power corrupts and fame can be an intoxicating drug. Palin and her family became a political hot topic in 2008, targeted by comedians and tabloids, as well as the conservative punditry, anxious to foist this fresh, bold, "Mama Grizzly" into the limelight, and to sweep up ratings for themselves along the way. For a bit, it worked. Voters and TV execs alike were enthralled by she and her whole family. Daughter Bristol, as an unwed mother to a beautiful baby boy, even wrote a book about abstinence and toured the nation to give the warning to wait, don't do what she did, learn from her poor judgment! She even got a reality TV show out of it for a short while.

she threw her full-throated support behind a man who has said he identifies as a Democrat, has backed single payer healthcare, eminent domain, abortion, and a progressive tax on the wealthy. He has attacked real conservatives, shows a glaring lack of knowledge on most every important issue facing our nation, and covers it all with a gross layer of incivility and arrogance towards any who question him or hold him to task. He is all these things and will be the death of the GOP, or any chance of growing conservatism in this nation, again, if he is not stopped...This Trump circus/freakshow is sad, pathetic, and tragic.Am I angry? Yes, I am. I'm angry at Trump for his charade. I'm angry at voters who would let this man rise so high in the polls, and an unwillingness to see how closely they mirror the Obama fans from 2008. I'm angry at radio personalities, TV news creeps, and attention seeking has-beens for putting their own self-interests above our nation's well-being. We had the strongest bench in many years, but more qualified candidates are pushed aside in favor of this Manhattan bully.
We are so close to the edge. The cult of personality will not draw us back. Now is the time for putting celebrity aside, not embracing it.
You don't have to be smart to make a decision, a good decision is another story. 43% of the people in this country think Obama is doing a great job.
I hope you listened to Rush today, I mean really listened because he answered you question. What did conservatism ever do for Palin except ridicule her. Look at what so called conservatives are doing right here. This election is not about conservatism it is all about populism and the egghead conservatives failed to recognize how pissed the people are.
I look for consistency on this forum. When I see inconsistency, I'm going to point it out, even when it puts folks like trisham on the run.
She still has her moments. She became a single issue person over uncontrolled immigration. To bad no one listened earlier.

Anyway, as I see it, it is the nature of FR that all famous people will NOT be treated equally. Unless there is strong evidence to support it, it's not appropriate to call Palin a drunk in a headline. I would make the same argument if it were Cruz, Trump, etc. Disagree with them, but avoid the vile slander. It demeans the site, IMHO.
But Beck, Limbaugh, Clint Eastwood, David Petraeus, whomever, they're just not in the same tier as Palin, Cruz, etc. I see them as fair game. You might disagree.
Then there's the bottom tier, Obama, Rove, Jeb, etc. They deserve to be roundly mocked. This is Free Republic, after all.
Trump Trump Trump.
The boys are marching.....
Ha ha ha...Cheer up comrades they will come...
I don't care what you say this election is about. For me it's about a return to conservatism. I am immovable on that. If that makes me an egghead conservative, then I wear it proudly.
If this were just another presidential year when we had the standard squishy candidates like McCain, Dole or Romney to choose from, then I wouldn't be so disgusted by the Trump phenomenon. But we do have a true constitutional conservative in the race this time, so we have a legitimate candidate to rally behind rather than someone the establishment has chosen for us. That's what makes this whole Trump thing so disgusting. We could be on the verge of squandering a rare opportunity to turn this ship around, but instead we're mesmerized by the shiny object.
I am listening to Rush and am very disappointed. He blabs on about what the people are pissed about, but he can't separate out the GOPe from the other non-Trump people. He never addresses us. When he generalizes, he lumps the solid conservatives in with the establishment. INFURIATING! BTW, I have my own ideas about why Limbaugh, Hannity and, to a lesser degree, Levin are so timid about standing up to the non-conservative Trump. I think they're afraid they won't be able to run in Trump's social circles if they call him on his faux conservatism. I have lost a great deal of respect for them, not to mention trust.
"The people" aren't the only ones pissed. I couldn't be more pissed at the disgusting development that is the Trump candidacy.
“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Or, in more modern English: individuals should follow their own instincts and ideas, and avoid conformity and false consistency.
“Her star child just gave birth to her second illegitimate child, her other kid just arrested for domestic violence.”
So, now the sins of the children are visited on the parents? Both these “children” are adults, and made their own choices, obviously independent of their parents. I don’t see how that should affect Palin’s standing. Its not Palin’s fault that a daughter is careless in her sex life, and a son cannot handle his drink. The adult offspring made these choices, not Palin.
“Got to do what ya gotta do to keep yourself in the spotlight”
Some Cruz supporters so desperate that I guess they will. I will remember this posting.
Good luck with that after you get a hundred million newly minted democrats. I doubt you are really a true blue conservative, in fact I doubt there are many at all. True conservatism requires a moral electorate and we are anything but that.
Sarah Palin has suffered more ridicule from True Conservatives than any human should have to and yet you find the time to heap on more.
Since she is all in for Trump now, has she recovered from her loonieness? So confusing....
The only conclusion I can draw is that the very ideology "Conservatism" as represented by Buckley / Kirk / Goldwater / Reagan and now Cruz is opaque or irrelevant to many who, for some reason, claim to be Conservative.
Cognitive dissonance...is there a cure?
(Great tagline)
Rush can stay. He’s pragmatic, like me.
It was you I was inviting to leave. Take care!
