If Cruz was on that Senate committee he should have stepped down from it and gone public with what they were planning/doing. But you also have to realize that Cruz is only one member of the group. He is not the chairman of the committee. I support Cruz and will vote for him in the primary but I also like Trump. Both candidates are acceptable to me.
Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. We know McConnell embarked on a campaign to co-op the incoming Tea Party winners in the in the 2012 election. We're seeing some of the tactics.
It will be interesting to see how apoplectic Trump and his fans will become if Cruz wins the Iowa Caucuses and does well in the southern slate of primaries, not an unreasonable outcome based on how carefully his campaign has prepared the ground. Their candidate’s reliance on polls and schoolyard taunts to intimidate and smear are getting a little old. Trump may well ride his steady 30% into the nomination, but the game hasn’t even begun yet and semi-coherent rants, vague pie in the sky promises, and gutter level attacks may not be enough to get that done.
Cruz was not just one member. He was the Vice Chair.
