I heard that Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1981 released more energy than hundreds of 20 megaton devices. 20 megatons is 1000 times greater than the device that devastated Hiroshima.

I heard that Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1981... Biggest eruption in the last 1000 years was Tambora, 1815 at about 10^20 Joules. That's about 14 minutes of sunshine hitting the earth.
