Donald Trump, speaking to a religious crowd at Virginia's Liberty University on Monday, turned to scripture.
"We're going to protect Christianity. I can say that. I don't have to be politically correct," he said. "Two Corinthians, 3:17, that's the whole ballgame ... is that the one you like?"

Wtong. English common law or the Law of Nations? I vote for the latter as having the most influence.
Heard it often as a child from my maternal grandfather (we found a mark in his bible after his death He celebrated the 8th complete ready of the Bible on his 80th birthday He was very religious although church was too far away so he had his own service)
His father , my great grandfather came from the same region of Germany that Trumps grandfather came from. In fact in a family picture there is a Julia Trump.
So It probably is a familial usage
The disqualifier is the casinos and strip clubs.

Oh but playing the stock market and inside tips is OK?
More importantly, can an individual who has never read the bible be a believer in God?

Excellent question!

What I find amusing is that this little dustup is getting zero traction in the mainstream media. Nobody else but people in this forum seem to care that Trump said 2nd instead of two (or whatever it is he said wrong).
I’m glad. These days...
I’d sure hate to think we handed the media a leg up on taking a guy down that we may actually need very much.
Given all the different religions of the world, each professing to be the true word of God, I'd just as soon place my own belief in God rather than any of those religions..........
Interesting enough, each religion's own bible was written by man and who is to say one is true while all the others are not?
All just too coincidental. As Columbo would say..........
ouch! That was the meanest cut of all.
You need to practice what you preach. You trumpsters have eviscerated Cruz with accusations. Besides, the folks at Liberty University saw thru Trump like looking thru saran wrap after he read the passage.
Fences make good neighbors, you stay on your side.
Neither was JFK. Yet he rose to the challenge of Khrushchev and the segregationist rebellion in the South. He foresaw the mess that Viet Nam would become. I believe he understood the warning that Eisenhower sounded about the military-industrial complex. Some or all of that cost him his life.
To your point: our polity has devolved into merely competing ideologies. By ideology, I mean a set of ideas defining goals that are to be achieved through political power. Put a conservative or a liberal dressing on it, regardless we are trapped by this.
So I am leery of the Utopian ethos that lies at the root of all ideology.
Am I trapped by it? Yes I am. But, I am trying to reorder my thinking to at least be aware of it. One thing I am convinced of is that allowing ever more growth of and power to the central government is not the solution.
So, I try to listen and figure out what lies beyond the rhetoric. "Make America Great Again" is the theme. What is the way to the goal? Will it require a larger or smaller central government?
Can you tell me? Is making better deals the solution? Is a different set of hands on the levers that already are intruding into areas that are none of its business the solution?
Is there anything you can tell me to indicate that Trump cares for my concerns? The WaPo came out with a nice laundry list of specific demolitions that Cruz has called for on Leviathan.
If the Beast can be shrunk, even a little, then ideology, regardless of its variety, loses a little of its power to rule over me.
Ah and we must go back to the truth of “If God did not exist, it would be necessary to create him,”
Nope! It’s a free county.
Trump mis-quoted the Bible on the Apprentice. Unlike Obama who was a virgin with no history to plague him, Trump has a high visibility history. That is both his blessing and his curse.
Only a "Mr. Bungle" would do that.
Let me respond later Don-O. I’ve been here longer than I should have been. I need to do a few other things.
Seems like a nice post. I’ll be back.
It is probably widely used in many places - I’ve heard “2 Corinthians” many times. It was “off key” to the Liberty U students, but otherwise, not an issue. This is one of those nits people look for to pick. To no good end.
