Donald Trump, speaking to a religious crowd at Virginia's Liberty University on Monday, turned to scripture.
"We're going to protect Christianity. I can say that. I don't have to be politically correct," he said. "Two Corinthians, 3:17, that's the whole ballgame ... is that the one you like?"

Asking God for forgiveness for sin is fundamental. It's like someone saying I build brick homes, but I've never bought a brick.
I know, right?
If it was quoted correctly he would’ve gotten lambasted as the religious right.
Before this is over I would not be surprised if Sanders or Clinton quote the Koran, but then the press would like that.
Reagan understood that he needed “Low-Info Voters” to vote for him to win, which is something that Trump also understands.
We may not like to admit this, but it’s true. The Democrats have had the monopoly on Low-Info voters, which is why they’ve been winning.
Oh, my friend,
This is not evil. This is Free Republic where people can post what they think as long as they don’t deal in profanity or personal insults. (Unless you think ‘you suck’ is a personal insult)
We’re all just passionate about our candidates and we get a little over the top sometimes.
But calling Cruz supporters “the depths of sickness” is not a good way to call us to be better.
It’s EVIL?!
Um, no. It’s primary season at FR. Get up on the porch if it’s too much for ya.
My goodness.
“EFFYOou!
And Iâm a Christian.”
Sure you are, we can all see you are just brimming over with Christian love.
Well altura, I don’t think you suck at all.
Thank you.
Ever hear of Constantine?
The reason Trump said he didn’t remember having asked for forgiveness is that the next question would be, “what have you asked forgiveness for”?
If he said what he had asked forgiveness for it would be used to attack him later. It would be seen as a weakness that the media and other candidates could go after.
Trump is always a step ahead. He is never going to let anyone know where his weaknesses lie and open himself up for attack.
Of course, the gang around here can’t see that. They are used to taking people at face value and don’t seem to have the ability to think beyond what a person says in both good ways and bad ways.
We have a whole congress full of people who were taken at face value.
Didn’t Jimmy Carter? How did that all work out?
Not very well.
If that were to happen, the libtard media would ooze all over themselves on live TV. Tingle up the leg and all.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Thread post winner!!
Not to mention....who are we to judge? No one on this forum is the ultimate expert of a person’s heart/beliefs. Only God is.
Or, as the boss so nicely put it, God works in mysterious ways.
Perhaps you should get up on the porch if the truth is getting too deep for you.
Doesn’t all this remind you of the religious leaders condemning Christ when Pilate was trying to save him? Seems group think and p.c. have dumbed down more people than we thought.
You mean candidates aren't supposed to be nice to each other and sing their praises, and say "Gee my opponent would be better for the job than I, I should just quit."
You mean "Bible-Thumpers" so conceited they imbue their sectarian habits with divine inspiration?
You're probably right.
As for Trump's "ballgame." He's not evangelizing. It was a perfectly appropriate verse for one running for an American elective office. "Liberty" is, and has always been, the focus of "The Great Experiment."
