Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) said Monday that the birthplace of Sen. Ted Cruz is "fair game," adding to a growing chorus questioning whether the Texas Republican's Canadian birth could affect his ability to secure the GOP presidential nomination.
"When you run for president of the United States, any question is fair game. So let the people decide," Branstad told reporters Monday.
Cruz, speaking to reporters in Baton Rouge, La., noted that Branstad's son has thrown his support elsewhere, hosting fundraisers for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

like Trump did at Liberty today? Where was Cruz? at the FEC explaining his false witness?
We would if he was eligible. He was born in Canada!!
Cruz claims as a lawyer he is for original intent of our Constitution. Well, that is except for himself. See there are still enough Americans not deceived by the living breathing Constitution groupies, that know what natural born means under original intent... We who know what natural born means, under original intent, also know that a Harvard law school grad knows as well. It is just lazy and ignorant to blame anybody but Cruz.
Cruz is disingenuous on a good day, dishonest on all the rest.
Are people on this board willing to vote for an admittedly, foreign born, President?
Why do conservatives who “cared” about whether or not Obama was born in Kenya are coming to Ted Cruz’ defense?
I guess some folks only cared about a foreign born president when we were talking about a Democrat. That seems hypocritical to me.
Maybe someone can explain the logic in this. If you did not care about Obama’s birthplace, this post does not apply to you.
The Democrats are licking their chops to file against Cruz. Why? He was one of the attorneys of the ground in Florida during the recount. This is major payback. Democrats are still mad.
Did that peter out? A non-issue?
I would like to see that resolved also. It was said that she renounced her American citizenship to vote in the Canadian elections.
Is there anything to substantiate this rumor?

Jeff Sessions is very fine example with no baggage and an impeccable reputation. He is my pick to share the ticket with TRUMP, if Donald just must have a pol on the ticket. Sessions is the sage of the senate and has been a tireless researcher on all these urgent issues that are especially vital to our country and to conservatives, and he “do” know the Senate, inside out.
Obama’s place of birth is relevant because NEITHER of his claimed parents could transmit citizenship to him.
If Obama was not born in the U.S., he is an ILLEGAL ALIEN.
And there is no evidence he was born in the U.S.
Place of birth is ABSOLUTELY IRRELEVANT to the issue of Natural Born Citizenship.
Nope. That is the issue — as apposed to “Foreign Born”.It will be a log fall— enjoy the air until you hit the ground.
PLACE of birth is absolutely unrelated to the issue of Natural Born Citizenship.
What you are arguing for is that only ANCHOR BABIES are “Natural Born.”
The term “Natural Born,” used in the Constitution, HAS NO MEANING. It is not defined IN the Constitution, and it has never been defined subsequently by a finding of Congress.
For the internal consistency of the the Constitution, it is only necessary that the term be more restrictive than “citizen,” because members of Congress must be “citizens,” but are not required to be “natural born.”
You are arguing that ANCHOR BABIES are natural born citizens.
Did Ted's parents do this?
My parents reported my Birth to the American consulate in Vancouver, BC
Yes, Trump wants to bring “a few” of the illegals back through legal processes. That’s still better than Cruz who has tried to do everything possible to avoid fully committing to deporting the illegals in the first place. He wouldn’t have needed to use weasel words to avoid a full commitment if he really wanted to do it. And without a force to start removing illegals, which Cruz has made clear he strongly opposes, most will never go. If a president shows that he is serious about deporting illegals, many will then leave on their own accord.
The attempt of Cruz supporters to make Cruz out to be stronger on the topic of immigration than Trump is very amusing. Fortunately, among the general public, Trump owns this issue.
There is absolutely no doubt about it. If you are a US citizen and born on US soil — you are eligible to be president. GET A CLUE#!!
For me, it is the melding of cultures that makes Cruz’ natural born citizenship suspicious.

I agree with you.
If you were Ted, and in Ted’s position, what would you do?
I know I will probably have to go into a protection program after saying this but our law is the one thing that sets us apart from all other countries.
Our law, as it was first written, is the only one that allows citizens autonomy.
We aren’t (supposed) to be subject to the whims of a king or dictator. With our law we are able to live freely with respect to others.
I personally think Ted should put the law above his personal desires, pack up his campaign, encourage Rubio to do the same thing, and go home.
The difference is that McCain was born to two US citizens while serving the country abroad.
