Beloved detective Nancy Drew is returning to TV - but she'll look different from how fans remember. American network CBS is pledging that the new Nancy Drew won't be white.
At the Television Critics Association press previews last week, the head of the CBS entertainment division, Glenn Geller, told reporters his network wanted to focus on diversity, including shows designed around characters who were black and Latino.
"We're not casting colour-blind, we're casting colour-conscious," he said.

Television of the next 50 years will be to remake all the shows of the last 50 years with black actors.
And what would happen if white folks were starred in place of black folks? Say George Clooney playing Barack Insane 0bama?
Why not a Samoan? I say we give Dwayne Johnson the roll. He’ll be able to get all the culprits involved to confess. That might change the central idea of the character a little bit, but its for the children.
He would relish the roll no doubt.
I’m supposed to believe that a black female is named Nancy?
Are you kidding me?
I might believe TreNancy, or maybe Nanceneisha, or maybe LaQwonancolanda.
But Nancy?!
I don’t think so.
Guaranteed the villain will be a white male conservative. Probably a businessman.
Then there’s making “Watson” a Chinese woman.
In related news, MSNBC will broadcast an historical drama, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin - Diversity Edition”.
‘Simon Legree’ will be played by Danny Glover
‘Eliza’ (slave girl) will be played by Taylor Swift
‘Eva St. Clair’ (young daughter of Uncle Tom’s owner) will be played by Oprah
‘Uncle Tom’ will be played by Pauly Shore (hey, ain’t diversity great!)

Correction: “all the shows of the last 50 years with non-white actors.” It has already started.
It’s probably something I’ll never watch.

Personally, I have no problem with casting black and other minority actors in what have traditionally been “white” roles. If the actor is good, the performance will be good. And it adds and interesting twist — for instance, casting Judas as a black man. The BBC does this at times in their dramas. They have a scene from the Middle Ages that has black peasants. Its a little strange at first but they aren’t trying to say that its historically accurate so I don’t see the harm. As long as they don’t import a lot of PC garbage into the story line, I’m OK with things like this.
Ah, the bigotry of soft expectations. The black community apparently loves that brand of racism, just as much as the anti-white brand of racism.
In the 1970s good old 1950s TV scripts were rewritten to make a woman the lead. In the 1980s it was women who kicked butt.
Now such good old movie plots are rewritten to make the main characters a different race.
Wonder how Casablanca or Treasure of the Sierra Madre would be rewritten. No doubt the BAD guys would still be lilly white.
I don’t know, Mommy and Daddy Pope aren’t white.
