On Sunday, the GOP presidential hopeful acknowledged that his position has changed since 2013, when he helped craft a comprehensive immigration reform bill that included a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants.
But that shift, he argued, was a concession to the political realities in Washington ââ where House Republicans have refused to consider the issue ââ as well as a reaction to recent terrorist attacks he says have exposed holes in the enforcement of existing law.
"It is very clear now more than ever that we are not going to be able to do anything on people that are illegally until we first prove to people that illegal immigration is under control and America is safe," he said in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" program.

That’s Rubio’s announcement that he will soon retire.
RuB.O. is just the Republican version of B.O.
Cruz went with the nutcase Glenn Beck down to the border in July 2014 to hand out soccer balls and teddy bears to illegal invaders. That makes me question Cruz’s judgment, first by associating himself with Beck, who almost everyone now thinks is a nutcase, and welcoming illegals.
There are no non criminal aliens. If they are here illegally they are criminal aliens. Period.
Handing out soccer balls and teddy bears makes it look more like a welcome party. If he had just gone down there on his own without Beck, and just had his people taping the flood of illegals is one thing, greeting them with gifts is something else altogether.
Oh barf. That is sick even from you.
Rubio schemed with Schumer against the citizens and the rule of law. He still thinks fraudulently documented foreigners should get a pass on all the laws they are breaking to be here illegally.
Back stabbers should never be given more knoves.
Rubio is finished as VP. He was the establishments only chance. It will now be Newt and that is wonderful.
It better be a constitutional amendment, because it won’t take long for the Supremes to say, “No, you can’t have permanent residents with diminished rights.”
Trump's answer is best. Send them ALL home. Let them start the process there, by rule of law. By doing it that way, anybody who stays under the radar and doesn't return home can be deported permanently.
We already have permanent resident aliens.
Short story; Rubio accepted we demand enforcement first during GO8. Hence him a no show on the bill.
Frankly he now sounds pretty good on the issue, I just wish I trusted him.
we don’t need Trump’s touchback amnesty which will allow a mojority back into the country through that “big beautiful open door”. What we need are the current laws to be enforced, with illegals deported without a chance to return. That’s the plan with Cruz.
Look, I was a fan of Rubio when he was first elected. He has since proven to to be a liar and a supporter of amnesty. He’s dead to me.
I’ve decided to be a campaign worker for Rubio. Like him, I never have to show up.
Trumps US jobs for US citizens and required use of EVerify is the best plan out there.
