I had hoped that Trump and Cruz would combine as one ticket. That seems less likely now.
I’ve always been willing to vote for either of them in the general election (and no other Republican) but I have preferred Trump. In part, because I think Trump is more electable. He has charisma. Many Independents like him. Some Democrats like him. Trump will attract a lot of votes from a lot of sources.
And Trump is right — Cruz has not made many friends. Rightly or wrongly, he has rubbed many people the wrong way. I see Cruz as less electable than Trump.
But if Cruz is the nominee, I would still vote for him.
He's rubbed all the right people in the wrong way, so screw Trump.
We all know this Trumpian tactic and it can flip on a dime if he sees a negative impact. But it's not an underhanded approach—it's very public and transparent. It's not a truly “fair” approach, but it's tame when compared with the Democrats and the media.
Cruz should thank Trump for playing hard.
Not really sure what's next for America, but it appears the ballot box has again failed us.
If wooing McConnell and McCain are what we are measuring, Cruz is making friends with the right people. This attack is hurting Trump immeasurably, pulling a lot of people like me away who are open to a moderate in this case because he is really good on a few issues and knows how to man-handle the media. He’s down a bad path now, and it may blow this whole thing up and leave us with one of the milquetoast losers hanging around in 3rd-6th place.
The more Trump tweets, the less likely I am to vote for him in a general election. And if I’m wondering, given how I loathe the democrats, that is a bad sign for Trump.
Particularly since I’m certain he is running on the Nixon/Dole strategy: Act conservative in the primary, then run as far left as you can in the general. Dishonest, but it used to work. Except some of us are tired of being stabbed in the back 24 hours after the nomination.
I want to see some consistency, some indication the guy REALLY believes something, and Trump is all over the board.
I don’t want Cruz to make friends in Washington. He ran on a platform of not going there to make friends and become part of the Washington establishment, and I respect him immensely for that. Go Cruz!
“I had hoped that Trump and Cruz would combine as one ticket. That seems less likely now.”
It’s all theater. Cruz needs to come back and say that defending the Constitution is a nasty business and he’s not there to make friends.
The smartest thing Trump could do (if he’s the nominee) is to make Cruz VP. Trump will get tired of being POTUS after one term and handing it to Cruz would be the best thing for this country.
