David Brooks: "I Wish We Had Gray Men In Suits" To Take Out Trump, Cruz

Conservative New York Times columnist calls for the "donor class" to create an organization like MoveOn.org to take out Republican frontrunners Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz. Brooks said he wished "we had gray men in suits" to take away Trump and Cruz in his Friday appearance on PBS' NewsHour.

JUDY WOODRUFF, PBS NEWSHOUR HOST: Well, does that mean something, though, for Jeb Bush? Does it - does that translate into something for him?

DAVID BROOKS, NYT COLUMNIST: Well, Jeb Bush is part of a large group of people who are like the team at halftime who - like the Republican establishment, who feel like they're down 50 points and they have decided they're going to lose the game.

And that's how the Republican establishment is right now. They don’t believe that Ted Cruz or Donald Trump can win. They think it could imperil their majorities in Congress, and yet they're doing nothing about it.

JUDY WOODRUFF: But what could they do?

DAVID BROOKS: Well, I wish we had gray men in suits. We don't have that.

They think it could imperil their majorities in Congress, and yet they’re doing nothing about it.

...

The majorities in Congress were elected by the same people who like Trump and Cruz. They are fed up with the GOPe who did nothing good with the majorities.

Is he hinting darkly about some kind of wet work?

Hey David!

As long as we’re wishing, I’ve got a list.

Don’t worry, you’re not worth the effort.

Reads like a threat to me.
How about a visit from the Secret Service for Mr Brooks?
If the name was Obozo in that exchange, instead of Trump or Cruz, doors would be kicked in, dogs would be shot and windowless vans would be spreading away.

No, he is hinting that it’s time for the adults to take over. By that he means that it’s time for America to be governed by men from the right families, who went to the right universities, and who belong to the right gentlemen’s clubs.

"Why the adjective? Has this clown ever said or done one conservative thing in the last two decades? Has he ever?"

It is like stories that used to begin with "Barack Obama, who was born in Hawaii" or "Global Warming, for which there is a scientific consensus."

It is a notice to PC-compliant readers to suspend any skeptism.

He means, “Men in Black”, because he thinks Trump and Cruz are space aliens.

Never could figure what’s with this guy and clothes - is he related to the Brooks Brothers who make their living off of suits? Is he trying to redefine democracy in terms of how good politicians look when they’re dressed up?

Even for a NYT columnist, it’s hard to believe he’s as superficial as he comes across - although I guess he has made it clear that he is better than the rest of us in our jeans and flannel shirts and stuff.

Men In Grey Suits:

“Men in business or politics who have a lot of power and influence although the public does not see them or know about them.”

A.k.a. as The Ruling Class and/or the Washington Cartel. All of whom support despotism and oppose government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

It was so much better when the nominees were chosen by the party bosses in smoke-filled rooms at the conventions. That gave us such outstanding Presidents as Franklin Pierce and James Buchanan and such sterling also-rans as Alton Parker, John W. Davis, and Alf Landon.

I think he actually said ‘gay’ men in suits. Brown suits with perfect creases.

Brooks gets his paycheck from the New York Times as the house “conservative”. As such he is on a very short lease. He is not really a conservative. More like a liberal with a conservative label who knows how to sing for his supper to delight his paymasters.Best to put this fraud on ignore.
