He took loans against stock he had. That was not free money as he had to pay it back or lose his stock. If one gets a loan, period, it has to be paid back. He borrowed the money, it was not given to him free, was not a political contribution by any bank.
Over my life, I borrowed money from banks to buy houses. They gave me the money, but I had to pay it back. That is what a loan is, pay it back.

That is not the point, even if it is true. The controversy is about not declaring it as the law stipulates. It would have gone against his campaign narrative, so it was certainly convenient for Cruz, with an unusual memory and unusual abilities, to “overlook” it.
