9/11 WIDOWER INVITES CRUZ TO LEARN ABOUT 'NEW YORK VALUES'
ABC 7 CHICAGO ^ | 16 JANUARY 2016 | JENNIFER HANSLER

Posted on 01/15/2016 6:00:13 PM PST by Extremely Extreme Extremist

Sept. 11 widower James Smith knows something about New York values. Smith's wife, Moira, was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She was the only female law enforcement official killed that day.

When Smith, a retired NYPD officer himself, heard about Ted Cruz's "New York values" remark earlier this week, he took to Facebook to invite the Republican candidate to the Big Apple.

"I was disappointed by your disparaging remarks about New York values somehow being different from Iowa and New Hampshire values," Smith wrote. "I invite you to come to the National 9-11 Memorial and Museum and see for yourself, and perhaps learn something about, the values of New Yorkers."

I think you got the Trump and Cruz backwards in your first sentence. If not could you explain.

9/11 had nothing to do with the comments, it had to do with this interview.

http://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/video/trump-in-1999-i-am-very-pro-choice-480297539914

One of Ted’s mistakes was assuming people had seen this interview. Only Freepers and election junkies had probably watched that interview before the debate. So that line of attack had no frame of reference.

Can’t stay. I have some home stresses right now so patience is something I haven’t a lot of. I know me so my mouth and temper are best served elsewhere. ;-)

"I don’t think this has hurt Cruz at all."

Then you are crazy

"The rest of the country knows exactly what New York values are, and I gotta say, they're not Iowa values and they're not New Hampshire values"

Cruz basically insulted everyone in and from the state of New York. He will never recover from this. And those of you saying he meant NYC or NYC pols. Well that is NOT what he said. He said New York (a state), Iowa (a state) and New Hampshire (a state). The very smart lawyer knows how to use words he was talking about the state of New York.

Vette Trump, it won’t be good. The MSM is waiting until after the convention. Union and Mob run NY City, where the most famous Mayor and his Police Chief were unfaithful, and criminally corrupted respectively.

He shouldn’t have to explain what he meant. The message should have been clear from the get go. If you leave a message to interpretation you are only screwing yourself.

You must be a conservative Californian. We get dumped on
by fellow FReepers because the majority of voters here elect
DemRat politicians. I can’t understand the big deal. It
is pretty obvious that Cruz was talking about politics. To
conflate it into something else is straight out of the
Rat playbook and below conservative standards.

Well, then stay off for a while if you peace of mind is at stake.

I handle it by not responding to posters who make mindless personal attacks.

If someone has a difference of opinion and seems amenable to reason, I will post to them (by the way ... if you’re interested ... the grammar people have deemed the use of ‘them’ in that sentence correct.) I’ll admit it’s easier than ‘him or her’ which I always used but it is a little creepy.

Crass, cynical emotional manipulation, deflecting from obvious target of Cruz's remarks to bloody shirt strawman. Never thought I'd see this sort of garbage promoted by so called conservatives on FR.

Are Trump supporters seriously arguing that bravery, heroism and coming together in in aftermath of terrorist attack is somehow unique to New York?

If you want to feel insulted, be my guest but Ted Cruz did not insult you.

By the way, I may very well be crazy ... the psychiatrists are still talking it over.

Did I say that Cruz should have to explain himself?

If so, maybe I say too much and can’t remember it all.

"I hope Cruz recovers."
There is nothing to recover to. Cruz needs to go all in against Trump, not NewYork or NewYorkers.

We are letting the political scum of New York set the terms of the argument.

They chose to make a straw man from a deliberately wrong inference, and, to mix metaphors, are not about to stop beating the dead horse!

Cruz should simply ignore the noise.

That’s what I’m worried about.

Trump drew us in like a Pied Piper when he threw political correctness to the wind and said all the things we’ve been wanting to say.

Hey, I still appreciate that.

But I’ve seen more than a few posters here who have soured on Trump and I am one of them.

Trump people say that Cruz needs to get the citizenship thing settled ... except that it is settled.

Trump needs to get ready to defend himself over his former positions that are distasteful to conservatives.

Sure, he can say he changed his mind and that’s okay ... but did he? And will he change it back?

As for draping himself in the heroism of 9-11 to defend New York... I’ve gotta repeat this in case someone missed it.

“Attacked for being a New Yorker, Donald Trump draped himself Thursday night in indignation and the valor of other city residents and first responders who answered the call of 9/11.

But it turns out he was terrible at answering such calls.

The group fighting to pass a permanent 9/11 health care law twice asked Trump for his support in getting it passed.

He never answered them or media inquiries related to it.

Even before that, he had a terrible record of donating to 9/11 relief efforts, according to The Smoking Gun. The billionaire gave all of $ 1,000 to a sketchy Scientology “detoxification” group.”

Look, we all know what New York Values are...What Trump did was play the TRUMP card, i.e. 9-11. He can do it, he was there, he smelt death in the air for months. It was beautifully played. Heck, it even had Cruz clapping. What else was Trump supposed to say?

Now if Trump was from say California, he couldn’t use 9-11. It is a card that is dangerously played and perhaps can only be played once..

Trump was also defending his fellow New Yorkers. He is looking to the general election where he needs every state. New York is delegate as well as elector rich. Its a long game. Trump wants to carry this, the bluest of blue states. So he plays his TRUMP card.

Cruz was playing for the Pizza Palace crowd in Iowa, looking to win there. Trump is looking beyond Iowa and to the general election. The tit for tat between the two was beautiful. Cruz had great lines, Trump had excellent comebacks. I call it a draw between the two. If you are a Cruz fan you might think Cruz knocked out Trump. If you are a Trump fan, one might think he took it away. Its politics. It was fun to watch.

Trump schooling Cavuto on trade with China was great to watch. Remember, Trump signs the front of the checks, everyone else on that stage signs the back. That is the aspect he should play up more. Folks want jobs, they want good paying jobs and don’t mind working hard as long as there is a return.

In fact President Trump should team up with Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs Guy) to create nationwide industrial schools, especially for these inner city kids. If they learn a viable trade, the learn self esteem and a work ethic and can hopefully one day break the welfare dependency cycle. This could be done with tying in welfare, etc...This might be money well spent on our fellow American CITIZENS to give them a boot strap to get out of the hole.

In fact, I like this potential idea so well, I ask fellow Freepers on how such an Industrial Schools program might work..maybe tie it in with a two year “country service” or something. Something has to be done to get these youngsters (17-20) on the right path toward being a productive citizen.

Cruz sounds like an ungrateful immigrant biting the hand that feeds him. Reminds me of the story about the refugees in Germany rioting because of the slow wifi.

D.U. much NOOB?

"It's disheartening to go through another cycle where politicians are trying to divide us,"

They've been doing this for decades. Not that long ago America was once a united country with tight bonds. Proud. Respected. They were American brothers and sisters and our country was respected by all. Not today. At this point in history America is like a juicy bone in a room full of pits bulls. And they have no desire to let go of that bone.

Yes, but not everyone listening to his statement are conservatives. He made a very open-ended statement that encapsulated New York State as a whole, not just the city, and didn’t specify which values. Most people aren’t going to try a delve deep into the meaning of what someone said, and will take the statement at face value.

If you think Trump didn’t know what Cruz meant, you are foolish. Trump knew exactly what Cruz meant, but he also knows what Cruz said was not specific. Cruz left himself open, he allowed this on himself.
