Police: We’re why ‘The Hateful Eight’ is bombing at box office
New York Post ^ | 1/14/16 | Richard Johnson

Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight” is a box-office disaster, and the police officers who boycotted the movie are taking credit for its disappointing ticket sales.

The violent Western was released on Christmas Day and has grossed $42.9 million so far. At this rate, it’s set to barely pass its production budget of $50 million — meaning big losses for the Weinstein Co., which spent another $25 million to $35 million on prints and promotion.

Police Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch, the first union official to call for a boycott of the film, said, “With nearly 1 million law enforcement officers in this country who have families and friends who support them, the impact that police have economically on a product or project is immense. The law enforcement boycott of cop-hater Quentin Tarantino’s movie is one demonstration of that economic power.”

Lynch called for the boycott after Tarantino spoke at an Oct. 24 anti-cop rally in New York. “I’m a human being with a conscience,” Tarantino said. “And when I see murder, I cannot stand by . . . I have to call the murderers the murderers.”

Over three hours of art-house pretension might be another factor. I hear the music’s good...

For me it’s more the dialogue that I enjoy in Tarantino movies, and the way he builds up the tension slowly and then suddenly releases it.

The scene in “Inglourious Basterds” when they are playing the “Who Am I?” game immediately comes to mind.

That movie started out so good and promising. But at some point it just descended into a gore fest for the sake of a gore fest.

'Pulp Fiction' is one of the most overrated movies ever

Thank you...I thought I was alone in the universe about that flick.

and the rest were trash.

I liked "Reservoir Dogs" and thought "Pulp Fiction" was vastly overrated. After watching a few minutes of "Kill Bill" I knew Tarantino was mostly a hack.

didn’t know that about _Hanna_; saw it (free).

I also saw it for free and thought it was pretty good. I still don't understand what the director was thinking by insulting so many of us.

99% of the time Hollywood backs liberals... Too bad for them half the country’s conservative.

Did not need to have police call out this scumbag. Torturtino has been on my dirt list for years.

I do not think I have ever seen one of his movies. Thus, I am unable to contribute to the failure of this one.

I won't see it specifically because Quentin Tarantino directed it and racist Samuel Jackson is in it. BTW - Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" is one of the most overrated movies ever. Gratuitous violence seems to be his style.
I agree. Quentin Tarantino directs like he is fifty-something, immature, arrested-development boy living in a very disturbing imaginary-fantasy world.

Oh.. wait...

Tarantino meets the Dixie Chicks meets Susan Sarandon...

And Samuel Jackson is an obnoxious racist.

The Hateful 8 is a bomb because it sucked... by the middle of the movie..I wanted to see the actors break “the fourth wall” and shoot the director

I don’t think the cops can take full credit. From what I’ve heard, it’s a terrible movie, and even the use of 70mm is completely wasted because Tarantino was too stupid to realize that if you make a 70mm Western, you have to use the natural landscape as a backdrop to get the most out of it. Apparently he set most of the movie indoors!
