As a Midwesterner I find it insulting that NY has co-opted 9/11 to it's exclusivity. It may have occurred in NY and Pennsylvania and Virginia but it happened to all of America

As a Midwesterner I find it insulting that NY has co-opted 9/11 to it's exclusivity. It may have occurred in NY and Pennsylvania and Virginia but it happened to all of America.

That is bizarre. It happened to us - NYers; it happened to America, all Americans share in the sorrow. The brave passengers that crashed the plane are honored by us all, that's not a NY thing.

How are New Yorkers co opting it by remembering. It will be a part of our city forever...that it happened..that we rose above it, messily and painfully but with many individual acts of courage and dignity. What does that take away from anyone else. Did you just resent the pride & solidarity?

Are you nuts? How many of YOUR co-workers, family members, and good friends were burned, disintegrated, or jumped out of buildings that day? Some NYers lost multiple family members on 9/11. During your lifetime, did your Midwestern town have intact families at 8 a.m., and within six hours be left with many thousands of widows, widowers, and orphans?

9/11 did happen to all of America on one level, but very tangentially when compared to New Yorkers.
