Ted Cruz explains the non-story about his Goldman Sachs loan – [VIDEO]
The Right Scoop ^ | Jan 14, 2016 | The Right Scoop

Posted on 01/14/2016 7:18:11 AM PST by Isara

When you’re at the top the attacks come at you from everywhere. In this case it was a NY Times article that, as Levin suggested last night, was fed to them by some Republican operative working for another campaign. But just like the Trump-ed up birther story, it’s another non-story.

Ted Cruz explains below:

Ted Cruz explains Goldman Sachs loan (Video)

It’s no surprise that Ted Cruz is actually human and makes errors like the rest of us. As he said, the loan against his assets has been disclosed in a variety of other ways so it’s not something he’s been trying to hide. And he’ll amend the filing to fix that should the reports be correct.

There is no conspiracy here. Cruz was going up against Dewhurst who was spending millions upon millions of dollars. It takes money to compete at this level and Cruz was certainly the underdog.

So as I said, nothing to see here. If this is all they have against Cruz, if this is all the dirt they can find on him, then this ‘smoking gun’ is nothing more than a broken water pistol.

Heidi also attended harvard business school, and then went to work for Goldman Sachs,

Don't forget her stint at J.P.Morgan/Chase.

I hope Cruz keeps his ‘white hat’. We don’t have nearly enough Tea Party champions.

And I have a lot of respect for Mark Levin, but how does a first-senate-race candidate forget a loan that results in nearly $1 million in his campaign?

Well if Ted had been given millions of dollars by his daddy maybe he would have gone in to business.\

What does that have to do with the fact Ted Cruz, as far as I know, has never held a private sector job?

Just a lawyer. "Better Call , Saul" with a better resume. At least Saul Goodman is likeable.

Perhaps I don’t understand the issue - how is taking a margin loan out against your own assets to fund your own campaign - which you paid back - a mistake?

Glad to see you are coming around to seeing Senator Cruz as the nominee!

All kidding aside, you think there will not be great campaign ads for Mr. Trump? I cannot wait to see them. With the hours upon hours of high def footage, the attack ads practically write themselves.

“I happen to agree with it 100 percent” in regards to the Kelo decision.

How about ads surrounding his love of universal healthcare? Those will be really good...

Haha...you Trumpettes make me laugh....about $1M of their own money and less than half of that on a loan that has been fully paid back....Ted put his own skin in the game...in fact, it demonstrates his trustworthiness and will build credibility for him!

Chew on that one PUNY!

When is non-disclosure a credibility boosting move?

Ted Cruz's Senate campaign didn't file some government form, unlike normal people. We file every form required by the government on time every time, event though we have to spend our productive time reading through every law and regulation.

Mean while, look at this. Somebody didn't notice what Trump has been doing.

Trump supported TARP, auto bailout and Porkulus bill, i.e., Trump is for big government and big businesses.

And, of course, he is for Renewable Fuel Standard (ethanol mandate), so governement can pick winners and losers.

Trump's Record on Free-market Issue: (from the Conservative Review)

Trump has a terrible record on free market issues. The only bright spot is the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing, but this glimmer is countermanded by his repeated support for bailing out Wall Street and the auto industry, and increased stimulus spending. Of particular concern is Trump's belief that the government can use eminent domain powers to seize private property in the name of private economic development. This comes as no surprise, given his support for using eminent domain to profit his own company.

Trump supported the Supreme Court’s 2005 decision in Kelo v. City of London, allowing public authorities to seize private land for economic development by private investors; Trump said, “I happen to agree with [the decision] 100 percent.” (National Review)  This is no surprise given Trump’s attempt to use eminent domain in his own line of work. (Institute for Justice)

Trump supported President Obama’s 2009 stimulus, saying: “The word stimulus is probably not used in its fullest…you know, certain of the things that were given weren't really stimulus. They were pork, as we call it, or they were gifts to certain people. But overall, I think he's [President Obama] doing very well. You do need stimulus and you do have to keep the banks alive.” (CNN

Trump supported TARP, saying, "You had to do something to shore up the banks, because ... you would have had a run on every bank." (CNN

Trump supported the 2008 auto bailout, saying, “I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent. You cannot lose the auto companies. They’re great. They make wonderful products.” He also said that the federal government could “easily save the companies.” (Daily Caller

Trump criticized the Federal Reserve’s intervention in the debt market, saying quantitative easing creates “phony numbers” that mislead the marketplace and “will not ultimately benefit the economy. The dollar will go down in value and inflation will start rearing its ugly head.” (CNBC

Donald Trump has a history of using eminent domain to complete business deals. Multiple times Trump has supported the use of government agencies to take possession of homes and businesses for use in his private business plans. Eminent domain seizures are reserved only for public use of property rather than abuse by the government taking property from one individual and giving to another. (Washington Post

Donald Trump has sought and received crony capitalist tax breaks for his commercial properties in New York. These tax breaks, and even an abatement, force the property taxes of other property owners to rise at the expense of the connected. Special treatment for one business or industry over another with the tax code conflicts with free market principles. (National Review

In 2009, Trump supported Barack Obama's call for limits on the pay of executives. (CNN)

‘There are enough lies about the best constitutional conservative candidate in thirty years flying around without this adding to it all.’

Better to vet him now than later. He’s cleared up his natural-born-citizen status here in the forum to suit many, but then we have Mitch Mc-Conman hiding behind sleazy Professor Laurence Tribe along with McStain and now ...

Tom DeLay: Cruz Has Problem on Citizenship Issue
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3383534/posts

Those guys will sabotage EITHER Cruz or Trump. They would rather have a democrat in office than either of them.

Solution: Cruz should challenge Professor Laurence Tribe to a fair, no-moderator debate and tear him up. Maybe just a phone-debate. Take down Tribe, you clear it up once and for all. Cruzies think the debate’s a no-brainer to win, so time to prove it to the ‘G’ OP Establishmentg so we can unite.

I suspect this “non-story” Rubio, Bush, or Kristie may tell this story over again tonight in the debate.

Another weasel explanation from Ted. Are we to believe that the world’s smartest lawyer (according to many here, apparently because Solicitor General was Ted’s only real accomplishment) inadvertently forgot to disclose $500K in loans? No. When someone is running around as an outsider, railing on the big bad banks, and spinning a touching story that they mortgaged all their assets to finance their campaign, it does not fit the narrative when you are obtaining loans from Goldman Sachs which your wife happens to work for and most probably arranged. Sorry to disappoint, but Ted is a typical politician and lawyer, who just happens to spout conservative words every once in awhile between grandstanding on the national stage.

His wife works for Goldman too.

People should learn about margin loans before jumping to conclusions.

It doesn’t help, though. I wish Cruz, who ordinarily doesn’t make mistakes like this, had been more careful.

That’s the problem. It wasn’t a mistake. You can’t run a “grass roots” campaign with piles of cash from Government Sachs. Cruz has been less than honest with his campaigns and it is coming back to bite him now.

Even back in 2008, Trump believed in a ‘pound of flesh’ taken out of any corporation that got a bailout. Not conservative, but it would have discouraged bailouts and profitted Uncle Sam’s coffers.
