President Obamaâs call for âa new national effortâ to cure cancer during his State of the Union address on Tuesday seemed familiar to fans of Aaron Sorkinâs âWest Wingâ television show.
Thatâs because there was an entire episode in 2002 of the NBC show where the fictional president played by Martin Sheen made nearly identical comments.
On Tuesday, Obama said: âTonight, Iâm announcing a new national effort to get it doneâ¦For the loved ones weâve all lost, for the family we can still save, letâs make America the country that cures cancer once and for all.â
During the âWest Wingâ episode â100,000 airplanes,â Sheenâs character, President Josiah Bartlett, wants to pledge curing cancer over the next decade during his annual address to Congress.

He takes a lot of his lines from TV and movies, like”it’s above my pay-grade” from Bourne Supremacy.
and we should be shocked by this ?
His 1st presidential campaign rhetoric was stolen word for word from Deval Patrick....who happened to be managed by David Axelrod.
Id love to see “Thats All Folks”
Obama, with “cure for cancer” as something on his wish list is just him grabbing at the low-hanging fruit.
Soon.
Not soon enough? Maybe, but We the People need to start electing non-politician statesmen who will rout these scoundrels and do things like impeach and remove corrupt politicians like Obama who regularly violates the Constitution and his oath of office for his own aggrandizement.
Since 0bongo has never had an original thought in his miserable life it stands to reason...
Obama is as transparent as piss on a Sunday morning. Obama said this so that, whatever cures or treatments for cancer come about in the future, Obama can take credit for it.
I remember Bill Clinton declared “War on Cancer” & to win that war within 10 years. Of course, Clinton did absolutely nothing to wage such a war and likely did this for the same reason as Obama-—to take credit just in case anything “victories” came about. IMHO he was emulating John Kennedy when he set up a goal to get Americans to the Moon within ten years. The difference was that Kennedy actually did something to achieve that (provide von Braun with the finances needed).
I noticed in Hussein’s state of the union message that he held up the mass increase in oil production that “we” (yes, he used that word) accomplished. He was taking credit for something at which he threw every possible roadblock at and PRIVATE ENTERPRISE still got it done.
I believe it was President Richard M. Nixon that promised a great deal of research would be directed at “finding a cure” for cancer. Like nuclear fusion, the results are always going to be “30 years in the future”.
In 1971, President Nixon and Congress declared war on cancer. Since then, the federal government has spent well over $105 billion on the effort as of 2009. What have we gained from that huge investment? David Nathan, a well-known professor and administrator, maintains in his book The Cancer Treatment Revolution (2007) that we have made substantial progress. However, he greatly overestimates the potential of the newer so-called “smart drugs.” ReÂsearchers Psyrri and De Vita (2008) also claim important progress. However, they cherry-pick the cancers with which there has been some progress and do not discuss the failures. Moreover, they only discuss the last decade rather than a more balanced view of 1950 or 1975 to the present.
On the other hand, Gina Kolata pointed out in The New York Times that the cancer death rate, adjusted for the size and age of the population, has decreased by only 5 percent since 1950. She argues that there has been very little overall progress in the war on cancer.
And this is the bell that the Current Occupant is going to ring this year?
We the People need to start electing non-politician statesmen who will rout these scoundrels and do things like impeach and remove corrupt politicians like Obama who regularly violates the Constitution and his oath of office for his own aggrandizement.

We need to elect folks who have an understanding of and a REVERENCE for the US Constitution and the American Republic and the will and ability to fight for them — someone like Ted Cruz
Well Obama staffers watch The West Wing. The president on that show is a liberal dream. Obama is a real life liberal dream president. It all makes sense.
A Soros-puppet scripted clown for the hollywood/academia brain-fornicated yutes.
These demagogues. I don’t see where the Constitution, the ONLY source of federal power and validity of federal action, delegates to the feds power to “declare war on cancer.” Looks like more “feel-good” tyranny to me.
This text formatting problem is very annoying.

I think he wants to be able to give Cuba a lot of money:
Cuba Makes Cancer Treatment Breakthrough

He’s had 7 years to cure cancer, and he decided to wait until the last year of his second term? Why didn’t he do this 7 years ago?
