Buchanan: Trump is sui generis, unlike any candidate of recent times. And his success is attributable not only to his stance on issues, but to his persona, his defiance of political correctness, his relish of political combat with all comers, his "damn the torpedos" charging in frontally where others refuse to tread, as in that full retaliatory response to Hillary Clinton's stab at him for having a "penchant for sexism." Trump shut her down. These clashes have elated a party base that is sick unto death of politicians who never fight.
On building a fence to secure the border with Mexico, an end to trade deals like NAFTA, GATT, and [most favored nation status] for China, and staying out of unwise and unnecessary wars, these are the issues I ran on in 1992 and 1996 in the Republican primaries and as Reform Party candidate in 2000.
What Trump has today is conclusive evidence to prove that what some of us warned about in the 1990s has come to pass. From 2000 to 2010, the U.S. lost 55,000 factories and 6 million manufacturing jobs.
What Trump has in hand now to prosecute his case against the Bush Republicans and Clinton Democrats is hard proof these trade deals have de-industrialized America. If the GOP wants to know why it lost the Reagan Democrats, it is because the GOP exported their jobs to Mexico and China. The returns are in. And testifying to that truth is not only Trump's attacks on those trade deals but the lack of a vigorous defense of them by Clinton Democrats or the GOP establishment. Who today celebrates NAFTA, as John McCain went to Canada to do in 2008?

Trump has single-handedly changed the political landscape in America, in a good way, forever!
Go Trump!!
That’s an endorsement no one would want.
After last night the is no hope for the RINO party. Time to fire up The Tea Party Express.
Amen!
One of the problems witha Trump type is that it DOESN’T provide a template for a revitalized Republican Party. Trumpism dies with Trump, there is only one. In contrast, Cruz draws upon a coherent underlying philosophy based in western civilization/morality, free market economics, and adherence to the U.S. Constitution. Trump has much to offer, and he might certainly chase a lot of rascals out of the Republican Party who need chasing out. That by itself does not a party make.
I was looking to see if there was any melt-down from the msm this morning about Mr. Trump’s snake poem last night. Guess they’re too dreamy-eyed about the SOTU speech.
Buchanan makes a very profound point here, and in just a few words:
“As history shows, free trade is an ideology that is embraced by the intelligentsia of declining nations. Rising nations â Great Britain before 1850, America from 1860 to 1912, Bismarckâs Germany, postwar Japan, China today â practice economic nationalism.”
I would love to hear some FR comment on that point. Pro or con. Either is good (but keep it nice...).
There’s a “snake poem” out there by Trump?
But what is Trump’s alignment with any tea party organization?
Last night’s speech. He read the poem about the woman who found and injured snake, nursed it back to health and then it attacked her, saying that she knew it was a snake when she took it in.
I expected the msm to be screaming this morning about Mr. Trump referring to migrants/muslims as snakes...although to day is young.
2016 is going to be very interesting.
No one really knows how the whole political arena will end up if Trump is President or not.
How can anyone think this is either sustainable or good? I'll bet everyone of these factories was highly productive and profitable. But the 2-3% more you can make by using suicidal coolies overseas is too much to resist. Got to keep those international stock holders happy.
Pat still doesn’t get it.
The Trump way of communicating and fighting COULD be the future.
One man can’t change the future but one man CAN point the way.
I’m afraid you grossly underestimate the ability of progressives everywhere to undermine liberty wherever it may rear its head.
Thanks!
That's an awful lot of worship of a man who hasn't done a single thing politically, and forever is a mighty long time. I'll vote for Trump if Cruz is not on the ballot, even third party, but we should all expect many many moments of unexpected results if we do put him in office... and they won't all be good for the limited-government cause, the religious freedom cause, or the social conservatism cause. Be ready.
I know. All of those lost jobs!!
"If people can just pour into the country illegally, you don't have a country.." Donald Trump
Wow. That poem is profound!
