During her response to President Barack Obamaâs last State of the Union address, the South Carolina Governor recounted her own Indian-American heritage to call for fixing the countryâs broken immigration system.
Indian-American Republican Governor Nikki Haley on Wednesday faced flak from the supporters of her partyâs presidential candidate Donald Trump, as she cited her familyâs immigrant experience to warn against rhetoric that could make hardworking people feel unwelcome in the US.
During her response to President Barack Obamaâs last State of the Union address, Ms. Haley recounted her own Indian-American heritage to call for fixing the countryâs broken immigration system.
âDuring anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices. We must resist that temptation,â the South Carolina Governor said.
âNo one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country,â she said.
âWe must fix our broken immigration system. That means stopping illegal immigration. And it means welcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of their race or religion.
Just like we have for centuries,â Ms. Haley said.
Mr. Trump said after the Paris terror attacks he would consider creating a national database of American Muslims and later called for a temporary halt to Muslims entering the United States.
Ms. Haleyâs remarks apparently made Mr. Trumpâs supporters upset, which was best reflected in the series of tweets made by Ann Coulter, a strong supporter of the Republican candidate.
âTrump should deport Nikki Haley,â tweeted Ms. Coulter.
âNikki Haley says âwelcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of religion.â Translation: let in all the Muslims,â she tweeted.
âThe country is lit up w/a populist fever & the GOP (Republican) responds by digging in, criticising the GOP candidates dominating polls?! NOT SMART,â radio talk show host Laura Ingraham tweeted
Just another politician - SAY whatever it takes to get elected; then DO the opposite. TEA Party should withhold any and all endorsements with this statement: “TEA Party will no longer endorse candidates for office because we cannot trust ANY politician to DO what he SAYS.”
And people wonder why Trump has such popular support. He might be as bad as the liars, thieves and perverts who constantly lie to us; so what do we lose.
The responses on this thread make me ashamed to be a FReeper.
Well, I’d say it was a prime example of being insensitive to the current direction that the people want to take the country in. A complete moritorium on immigration, particularly illegal until we can sort out who belongs here and who should be sent packing. Then, once those who remain are assimilated successfully into a Christian culture of freedom, we can discuss immigration.
“fixing the country’s broken immigration system.”
Code words for amnesty. I wasn’t impressed by this gal even before she pandered on the Stars and Bars. Now she is a complete nonentity as fas as I’m concerned.
gopeepee offered her 15min in the spotlight and some money for her reflection campaign and she took it.
Nikki may have been assimilated but she ain’t no Jeri Ryan
Nikki wasn’t too tolerant of the Confederate flag was she.
Agree. Her poke in the eye of Confederate Heritage gives her BITCH status forever as far as I am concerned.
Nikkii the BITCH needs to change her name to "10 of 9"
Why? Never mind, I don't give a fat rat's ass why you are ashamed.
SOLUTION... STOP BEING WHAT YOU ARE ASHAMED TO BE.
Trumpmerica. Love it or you’re a loser.
More to my dislike, she started by praising Obama after he’d given a frighteningly bad speech.
And true to form, Debbie Wasserman Schultz responded by savaging Nikki and the GOP as bigots.
They never learn.
We have nothing against “hard working” people that come to this country.. where are they?
The ones I object to are those that come to this country and then suck on the public teat for the rest of their lives.
I agree with president J Q Adams, our most intelligent president. For the sake of humanity, ISLAM needs to go into the shit can and get flushed into a cesspool:
Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. That war is yet flagrant; nor can it cease but by the extinction of that imposture, which has been permitted by Providence to prolong the degeneracy of man. While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men. The hand of Ishmael will be against every man, and every manâs hand against him. It is, indeed, amongst the mysterious dealings of God, that this delusion should have been suffered for so many ages, and during so many generations of human kind, to prevail over the doctrines of the meek and peaceful and benevolent Jesus.
Her response was scripted rinse preberty pablum. If nikki had guts she would have written her own speech and tore up the gope script on camera.
But she is a good gope puppet and another dissapointment.

BINGO — I agree 100%, she was nothing more than a reader spewing forth the GOPe RINO verbiage. And she is definitely a major league DISAPPOINTMENT. The media always refers to her as a “bright light” but she has become a dim bulb IMHO.
Nikki may have been assimilated but she ainât no Jeri Ryan
Ah, but who is?
Time for TEA Party : TNG I guess.
Coulter was being sarcastic to make a point.
Some, I say some, Trump supporters remind me of the zombies that followed Obama around during his election campaigns.
Sad, some are gnawing their way across this board.
Legally, it would be easier to get Cruz deported than Nikki.
I love Ted but even his strongest backers gotta admit that's funny right there. :-)
Nikki Haley, a Republican, teamed up with the democrats to attack Trump strictly out of habit.
