Forget China, guns or immigration. Donald Trump is taking on a new issue: federal land ownership.
In a new op-ed for the Reno Gazette-Journal, the Republican presidential front-runner rails against the "draconian rule" of the Bureau of Land Management and the Obama administration's "land grab" in the western United States.
"The BLM controls over 85 percent of the land in Nevada," Trump explains. "In the rural areas, those who for decades have had access to public lands for ranching, mining, logging and energy development are forced to deal with arbitrary and capricious rules that are influenced by special interests that profit from the D.C. rule-making and who fill the campaign coffers of Washington politicians."
On Thursday, Trump told the New York Times he would end an ongoing dispute between Oregon ranchers and federal officials, that's culminated with a group of armed protesters staging an ongoing occupation of a federal wildlife refuge, with a "phone call."
"You cannot let people take over federal property," Trump told the Times.
Now, Trump says Americans shouldn't let the government turn the West into a federally-owned frontier.
"Honest, hardworking citizens who seek freedom and economic independence must beg for deference from a federal government that is more intent on power and control than it is in serving the citizens of the nation," Trump writes in his RGJ op-ed.
Trump, a billionaire real estate developer, pushes the conservative argument that because the government owns millions of acres of land, specifically in Nevada, "the cost of land has skyrocketed and the cost of living has become an impediment to growth."
"Where are the city and county to get the land for schools, roads, parks and other public use areas if they have to beg Washington for the land and then pay a premium price for it? How are people who see a future in Nevada to find housing and employment if the federal government is inhibiting economic development?" he writes.
According to Trump, who's second in the Washington Examiner's presidential power rankings, the only way to solve the issues sparked by federal land ownership "is to bring to Washington a president who will rein in the federal government and get Congress to do its job."
"What is needed in Washington is a president who has the will, strength and courage to lead," he writes, adding, "When I am elected president, I will bring the executive branch back inside the Constitution and will work with Congress to put America first."
Heard that, but thought it was someone NOT affiliated with the campaign.
Has any other candidate said something about this other than the need to stand down?
So you claim Cruz has been babbling about this. Where are the results? He’s had long enough from what you claim to get something done.
Absolutely Agree!
That is why it must be done. We must also kick the UN out of the US. It is the most corrupt institution in the world and we fund so much of it without us they are done. DOWN with the New World Order!
Then get Trump to hire Bolton to fix the UN before it gets shut down.
We need the UN shut down, not supported! Creating the U.N. is the worst thing we have ever done. We were smart enough not to join Wilson’s touted League of Nations. Why did we start a monster ten times worse?
Something I like to remind folks of: FR is very easy to join. That includes disruptors and paid posters. There are hundreds of millions of dollars floating around this election cycle. Do you think some of that money is being used for paid bloggers?
Of course it is.
Amazing how many democrats Trump has voted for and helped get elected to strip America of her Sovereignty.
Has any other candidate but Trump said they believe it’s a great idea for the govt to force you to sell your land to them?
The original sentencing judge was appalled that the Hammonds were charged and convicted under Terrorism laws when what they did was nothing of the kind. The mandatory minimum sentence under those laws was 5 years and the judge used his discretion to issue much lighter sentences.
Then, a real liberal moonbat of a DA (search ‘Amanda Marshall’) filed to appeal the judge’s discretionary light sentences after the Hammonds had served in prison (3 months for the father and 1 year for the son) claiming the judge had no authority to issue lighter sentences than 5 years. So back to prison they have gone.
The Bundy’s and a lot of other ranchers who were fed up showed up at a vacant nature preserve building out in the middle of nowhere in Oregon, a building that had been closed down for the season. They entered the grounds to set up a protest, a place where they could draw attention to the plight of ranchers and the horrible injustice meted out to the Hammonds and to other ranchers over the years.
It’s a gross miscarriage of justice and the ranchers have been maligned in the scumbag press as ‘domestic terrorists’.
So this was a perfect opening for Donald Trump to shine the light on this horror. First, he said the law must be followed. Then, he sent one of his campaign officials out to Oregon to collect facts, then he comes out with a new political issue that once again the establishment is afraid to tackle. And thus, he dominates the news cycle.
GG I agree, I think the info from this weekend got through.
I’m glad Trump is speaking out on it.
Hell, the fedgov won't even let a town rebuild a waterline or road through 'their' land. See Tombstone Arizona for one instance. The list goes on and on and on.
This will get him Nevada. I am thrilled to read this.
“The BLM controls over 85 percent of the land in Nevada,” Trump explains. “In the rural areas, those who for decades have had access to public lands for ranching, mining, logging and energy development are forced to deal with arbitrary and capricious rules that are influenced by special interests that profit from the D.C. rule-making and who fill the campaign coffers of Washington politicians.”
He has got me. I will vote for this man now. That comment is absolutely correct! Just take a look at the scam the 4Fri project is in AZ and NM. They let the contract to a MORON from Montana who never had any expereince in logging at all. His chief forester was a retired USFS chief and THEN, he was awarded the contract even though he was not the highest bidder. Then, they let the SOB “sell” the contract to a Arab holding company after he failed to perform. The new holder is called...wait for it...GOOD EARTH POWER! Yup, you guessed it. It will not pay its bills. Owes some 100 thousands of dollars to contract truckers and wont pay it.
Before him it was US Grant. Yellowstone was created as a park under Grant. Then comes comrade Roosevelt.
Donald Trump: There’s only one reason for the government to own or take land, and that is to give it to me!
America is in the ditch due in large part to two decades of Agenda 21 policy implementation.
For him to “Make America Great Again he has to start reversing that.
He can start where they started with terminating NAFTA, GATT and any other “Fair Trade” agreements that are not in our best interest.
Terminate all recommendations implemented by Ex Order 12852 The PCSD.
Terminate all Ex. Orders since that have furthered Agenda 21, e.g. The Rural Council.
Direct the BLM to start selling off Federal land. (Funds directed to pay down debt.)
When that is done abolish the BLM.
Direct all federal agencies to cease and desist in any further policy initiatives that are related to Smart Growth or Sustainable Development.
That would be a good start for the first day.
