Senator Ted Cruz has positioned himself as a strong opponent of same-sex marriage, urging pastors nationwide to preach in support of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, which he said was âordained by God.â
But on Monday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator and Republican presidential hopeful struck quite a different tone.
During the gathering, according to two people present, Mr. Cruz said he would not love his daughters any differently if one of them was gay. He did not mention his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying only that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states.

LOL good for the Tide. I was happy with the University of Houston this year. The Texans? Not so much....
Nice, sad but true. Trump / Clinton equals same playbook. No shame.
Groucho, I am not convinced that anyone can save the US from it’s post Constitutional decent into the abyss of failed states, but one candidate does have the ability and knowledge to effect some sort of rollback and the ability to explain to the public why it will be painful.
Ted is the guy that can do that.
Trump I fear will only double down on Obama’s abuse of his authority and actually continue the decent at the same or faster pace..
Neither candidate will work well with todays Senate and I don’t see that as a issue. The relationship with the people is what will make or break the next presidency.
I do not see Trump successfully managing that either..
I would rather see Carly...
But history tells us that at this point, you cannot make predictions.
Oh, yes, I know the Carville family well. I could never figure out how those two people on opposite ends of politics, could stand living with each other.
Cruz and James Carville can be in the same room and talk, but never would Carville give him a dime. Mary Matalin, however, would show James a wad of cash and hand it to Cruz in front of James. She is a pistol.
I do not believe Cruz met with the homosexual men for a campaign contribution. I recall the meeting was to discuss his view on homosexual marriage and his conservative government agenda. I do not believe Cruz was even taking contributions at that time but that is not why he went there.
what’s wrong with this? There are democrats willing to vote for trump and his supporters think that great. Are there gay democrats among that support, Im sure there is.
Cruz has appeal to unlikely supporters.
We need a president with an American-sounding name, dammit
I don’t get that people that opposite politically could get along on anything, but I guess it works for them.
Cruz had a message today at the rally appealing directly to libertarians. It would seem a libertarian position socially would be okay with private behavior. I always thought libertarians were Republicans who smoked weed.
Trump, though it isn’t mentioned much, is moderate on most social issues and the social issues have killed Republicans in the general elections.
You only know what you think and you cannot verify or vet anything you think you know about trump in a political sense.
In spite of everything you think you know, you are in the process of electing a politician, not a building contractor or deal maker..
As a politician you don't have a clue about Trump. Even on a good day, a US politician is almost unpredictable when he finally gets to his new desk.
In Trumps case there is absolutely no political history to use in that prediction. So you are depending on what you think you know about Trumps political expertise and how he will govern. But you don't know anything.
I think we can all agree.

Didn’t Obama say this?
Frankly this entire conversation Cruz had is old news and already dragged throughout the threads here before.....so it’s no news.....replay is all....just like the birther thing.
As for knowing who Trump is.....No , I don’t think that people do...they know what he tells them because if they knew who he was they would not be supporting him.....just like Obama supporters thought they knew Obama but they failed to consider the facts about the man even when clearly revealed.
This issue is old news....I’ve settled the matter nicely from before....
I’d bet that Trump has hosted gay people inside his penthouse before.
As JR said back in July, Trump has the sizzle, but Cruz is the real deal. I admit, I do not know if he has changed his position since then.
Having seen Cruz from his primary against a rino, and learning about his job as solicitor general before that, I concur with that sentiment .Why some FReepers would use unbecoming tactics to tear down a constitutional conservative is beyond me. Perfect? No, but only Christ was. Best hope to save the republic? I think so. But then again, I am just one mere mortal, trying to figure it all out.
If you're going to throw out crap like that at least kindly give a link.
My recollection isn’t just that this was hashed out months ago.
It was also that this gay couple was then visciously attacked and shunned by Liberals and within the gay community for daring to give Cruz an outreach forum. To the point where their livelihoods and social standings were targeted for destruction.
The story ended up being about the complete intolerance of the Facist, social justice warrior bullying Progressive Left. All because Cruz went to talk to to them.
Well, I’ve always advised my kids and anyone who would listen to never make a decision while PO’d.
I’ll try to take my own advice but I am pretty PO’d.
So you think Ted Cruz will change his mind on gay marriage? I doubt it, but I agree with him in regards to the situation if one of my children came out as gay. I’d still love them. They’d still be my daughter or son. I’d not confirm their lifestyle and I’d ask them to consider what the Bible strictly says about it, but I’d still love them, even if disappointed.
I have had a lot of gay friends over the years. That did not make me want to support their lifestyle, so I don’t see that it changes anything. Maybe they just like him. The VAST majority of Cruz’s donors are those who give less than $100 over time (small amounts) with his only big donor being a Christian guy. He has spoken with several big donors but they don;t support him because he is small government and doesn’t want to be owned by anybody. He wants to represent the people. It’s not fair to jump to conclusions that he will compromise his views for a donation or two.
If Cruz wins, I’ll vote for him enthusiastically and support him financially.
If Rubio wins, I’ll hold my nose and vote for him but that’s it.
If Trump wins, I’ll vote Libertarian.
Hank
You’re right. That is exactly what happened.
I know I won't be voting for Trump though.....there's enough others to choose besides him...thank God! But none like the Constitutionalist Cruz...so he's my guy to the end!
