Single-stall unisex restrooms may become law in S.F.

Restrooms for men and women may be on their way out in San Francisco. The new frontier: bathrooms for all genders.

Businesses and city buildings in San Francisco would be required to make single-stall restrooms available to "all genders," under legislation to be introduced Tuesday by Supervisor David Campos.

The measure requires businesses with single-stall restrooms to make clear that at least one is available to everyone on the gender spectrum, not just males and females. If a business has only multi-stall restrooms, it won't be required to change.

You might want to read this a bit closer before getting too bent out shape. I managed a law office several years ago and we did this. We originally had four restrooms in the building, two men’s and two women’s. One of each was multistall, and the other two were basically like a “powder room” in a residential house, just a small restroom only good for one person at a time. It’s really not a big deal to call those “unisex”, or “family”, or whatever, while keeping the main bathrooms separate for men and women. No one ever shared a restroom with a member of the opposite sex.

“Sex” is biological and binary. “Gender” is nothing but a social/psychological construct, and could indeed be a spectrum with a great many classes.

Confusing, no? That’s why feminists and their ilk worked so hard to change the language a few decades ago. These are people who read “1984” as a how-to manual. Change the language to make intelligent debate impossible; and you control the “narrative”, and by extension, the sheeple.

It’s probably a lost cause; but, it might slow things down a bit if we (the still sane) refused to use the term “gender”, except when discussing the declension of nouns.

Just saw a blurb on the local SF news station, KTVU. It only talked about all the wonderful reasons why this is a good idea- women would encounter shorter lines for instance, it takes the guess-work out of choosing a bathroom for parents with kids of the opposite ‘gender’.

David Campos from the SF Board of Supervisors whined about how North Hollywood, Washington D.C. and New York have been ahead of the curve and that San Francisco should be leading the way.

From personal experience, it takes away the privacy for 100% of women, teenage and young girls to ‘do their business’ without sharing the facility with men. We visit SF several times a year and it is not uncommon to have men, women, young girls, boys, grandmas and grandpas all standing in the same line to use the restrooms. The toilets are behind locking doors, the sinks are in a ‘common’ area.

The last time I encountered one of these was at a very pricey restaurant, “The Slanted Door”, at the Ferry Building. I went to use the restroom and a man came out of the toilet zipping up his pants. I went in and the seat was down with ‘sprinkles’ all over it and the toilet was unflushed. I attempted to flush it with the manual override (which didn’t work). I couldn’t get out of there fast enough without doing my business. It was so Disgusting. It’s the only thing I really remember of the restaurant where we plopped down ~$600 for dinner....when I complained to my kids (young adult men) they looked at me like I had two heads.

I just picture my 90 yo mother in law standing in line between hulking men to use the facilities. No One seems to care about little kids who get their first taste of independence by being allowed to go the the restroom by themselves in a restaurant the first time. No One cares that teenage girls and women use this private time for primping, chit-chatting amongst themselves or taking care of female hygiene issues privately.

All this is being sacrificed on the altar of Political Correctness in the event someone might get their feelings hurt....A pox on SF!

Ok dads are you going to stand there and watch the 50 year old man follow your 5 year old daughter into the public restroom.

Yeah, for 2.1 steps....then NO.

the answer is so simple....picture the genetalia on the door....if you look like this...here is your room, if not, go across the hall.

Does single stall mean a bathroom with only one toilet? If it has a lock I guess this isn’t a big deal, usually there is a lock on the door, and I never saw the reason there should be a restriction on them anyway. Multi stall restrooms, different story.

I would not want to use the same bath room that women use.

They always leave the seat down

Men, failure to lift the lid before and lower it after will result in a $50 fine.
