While Gerson frets over Donald Trump destroying the Republican Party. there were obviously already a lot of voters out there who weren’t seeing such a prospect as a particularly bad thing.
In fact, one of the biggest concerns being aired was the possibility that The Donald might win the most votes and delegates in the primary and then see the nomination stolen from him at the convention by a coalition of party establishment regulars. If that turns out to be the case, then I’m afraid it truly will be the end of the party as we know it for a at least a decade, if not a generation.
To a somewhat lesser extent the same could be said of Ted Cruz, a man not quite so outside Washington. as Trump, but still despised by many of his colleagues in the establishment for upsetting the apple cart entirely.
But what happens if Trump takes the nomination and then, as this poll suggests is increasingly possible, goes on to defeat Hillary for the presidency. Well. we ll have lived to see interesting times.
I have no predictions as to what comes after that, but rest assured that I’ll keep my seat belt fastened and my table tray locked in the upright position.

It will change into a different brand of moderate party. Conservatives will take a huge step backwards.
Interesting. It used to be free purrs didn’t trust polls now a lot of people think they are sacred. I still don’t trust pools.
Everything has moved left, even Free Republic.
The republican party destroyed itself...it’s not Trumps mess.

Cruz can't do that. Only Trump.

Most definitely we need a new party. For years both the demodummies and the rinos have been picking two losers and asking us to pick between the. NO longer, a third party is in order.

Juan and butt buddy Linda have destroyed the GOPee. along with Ditch, Boner, Ryno, Cornyn, Barbour, Tokyo, etc.
My take - The Conservatives will take over the GOP. The Democrats will implode after getting wiped out in the 2016 elections. The GOPe will replace the Democrats as being the “left wing” in American politics.
Trump will destroy the GOP by pulling their bloated asses away from the pig trough.
But they will be better for it.
And it will be one of the best things that has happened in America in a long time.

THE QUEEN AND THE DONALD
A private jet arrives at Heathrow international airport and Donald Trump strides to a waiting limousine which drives him to a warm and dignified reception from the Queen.
From there, they are driven in a 1934 Bentley to the edge of central London where they change to a magnificent 17th century carriage hitched to six white horses.
They continue on towards Buckingham Palace waving to the thousands of cheering Britons; all is going well.
Suddenly, the right rear horse lets fly with the most horrendous earth-shattering fart ever heard in the British Empire.
The fart shakes the coach. The smell is atrocious! Both passengers in the carriage must use perfume-dipped handkerchiefs over their nose, but the two do their best to ignore the incident.
The Queen turns to Trump saying, “Mr. Trump, please accept my regrets. I am sure you understand there are some things that even a Queen can not control.”
Trump, with his usual diplomatic aplomb, replied, “Your Majesty, do not give the matter another thought. Until you mentioned it, I thought it was one of the horses.
Trump can beat Hillary or ANY Dem; Cruz can't, no matter what others claim.
It sucks to be a loser, but it’s not too late for you. Trump will accomplish more for the conservative cause then has been done since 1990. You keep election these so called GOPe conservatives and what has it gotten you? TSA, DHS, TPA $20T debt, gay marriage, obamacare ? Get on board the Trump train and actually make a difference. Or keep doing what you are doing, some people are destine to sit at perimeter and just complain.
For me, it’s no longer about Conservative purity.
I just want the Establishment broken.
Cruz can’t do that. Only Trump.
If Cruz wins the nomination, I would vote for him — he is a great Conservative.
But Trump is the game changer I’m looking for.

I agree 100%. I guess that’s why it’s hard to listen to Mark Levine...he’s talking conservative purity...when it’s the establishment that need to be broken & no one but Trump can do it.
