Thanks, I really enjoyed that. Jim Reeves was right at the top of good voices.

5. The Linden Tree (Der Lindenbaum)
Before the doorway is a well
A Linden-tree stands there
Many times I’ve sought its shade
A place of rest and pleasant dreams
When dreaming there I carved
Some words of love upon the bark
Both joy and sorrow
Drew me to that shady spot
But today I must wander
Through this blackest night
In darkness I passed this tree
But couldn’t bear to look
I heard the branches rustle
As if they spoke to me
Come to me my old friend
Find peace with me
Cruel winds were blowing
Coldly cutting my face
My hat was blown behind me
I quickly sped on my way
I’m now many miles distant
From that dear old Linden-tree
But I still hear it whisper
“Come — find peace with me.”

I like the classic sung by the quintet of Oslama, Plugs, Harry the Exerslammer, Pelooni and Lurch -
One Ton of Mierda I know everyone remembers the snappy refrain
One ton of mierda, I shoveled one ton of mierda...one ton of mierda!

It didn't take much to turn the "U" into an "O". LOL

I used to sing this song in Russian all the time. It was one of my “big numbers” in the Russian/Jewish Community in Boston.

My audiences behaved EXACTLY like this crowd...wistfully singing along, holding hands, etc.
Very strange. I sang it on a bus in Israel and got the same reaction. It’s something about the melody....

There's something about the Russian soul. I get the same sense when I read Crime and Punishment or view "Dr. Zhivago."
