Try again when you can make some kind of coherent sense. The Constitution’s natural born citizen clause used language that was well understood when the Constitution was adopted, and every bit of that language was based upon historical and legal precedent. Now you can sneer at that simple historical fact all you want, and the only thing you will accomplish is to embarrass yourself as some kind of Know Nothing wallowing in deliberate ignorance.

Wasn't the entire issue about Obama being born in Kenya this precise problem? Now it's not a problem?

Stanley Ann Dunham - assuming she's the actual birth mother - was not old enough by law to confer citizenship to a child born outside of the US.

Since Obama was allowed to run, could Ted use the discovery process to access his birth certificate?

No. Violations of the Constitution. The natural born citizen clause and its antecedent precedents have ultimate control. Also note, the 14th Amendment does not alter or in anyway supersede the natural born citizen clause.

“It [Naturalization Act of 1790] also provided for citizenship for the children of U.S. citizens born abroad, but specified that the right of citizenship did “not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States.”

That act even used the words "Natural Born Citizen" to foreign born children if the father was a citizen. Women at that time had no voting privileges and since that has been rectified I would apply that same definition as pertaining to the mother today.

Well as long as we’re going to time references, Ted Cruz KNEW this was going to be an issue in 2013. The North American Law Center advised him not to seek the GOP nomination due to this very issue. Yet now that it’s being brought up it’s off limits. So-called Settled Law. What the hell has Cruz been doing to squash this outside of renouncing Canadian citizenship? He’s known or should have known this would happen. I’ve worked with lowly DA’s who’ve had more foresight....

Is Trump telling Cruz to CYA?

So you would have us believe that Donald Trump, "The Donald", the win at any cost, take no prisoners, ruthless billionaire and worlds greatest businessman/media star/human-who-ever-lived is doing this in order to help his closest rival and the person most likely to take the nomination from him? Really? Out of the goodness of his heart he is possibly placing the well-being of Cruz's candidacy ahead of his own goals and ambitions?

Pull the other leg. It's got bells on it.

The North American Law Center defines natural-born citizen no doubt the same way that you do, and in a way which excludes Cruz. In fact I believe the NALC published a whole article claiming that Cruz was not a citizen at all. Sorry but U.S. law says otherwise. Under the laws in effect when Cruz was born he's a natural-born citizen.

And again the point being Cruz KNEW in 2013 this would/could be an issue yet here it is, STILL being raised. But I suppose since it’s ‘settled’ that Dims and others won’t make it an distraction cuz politics is a clean business and you know.....it’s ‘settled’.

I now have four replies and counting that run away from what I said at lightening speed. Trump didn’t say Cruz was ineligible. I didn’t say Cruz was ineligible. If you Cruz supporters would do half as much Googling to support your candidate as you do trying to tear down and denigrate another; your candidate just might have a chance. You’re a bad reflection on him.

Trump, however, does have a word for those like you and the media who take a statement and twist it into what you want it to say, nevermind what was actually said. It’s the same thing he called Hillary and he’s right. That’s why I like Trump so much. He calls ‘em as he sees ‘em and he doesn’t have a bunch of donor/owners to tell him he can’t.

If you want to research something, why don’t you look at how many who are NOT Trump that are already preparing their cases against Cruz and his eligibility should he be the nominee. Send them some links.

Trump cannot show damages at this point since Cruz has not actually received any votes in a primary or caucus. Until Iowa caucuses or complete, Trump is not legally affected and it may not be until the New Hampshire Primary that Trump can show damages since I don’t believe Iowa actually has a ballot during a caucus. A case cannot be brought forward in court unless a litigant has standing and Trump has no standing until he can legally show harm.

I'm still not getting your point. If Cruz believed in 2013 that he was a natural-born citizen, regardless of what the North American Law Center thought, then why should he do anything today? His position hasn't changed. The NCLC position, in his view, is wrong. Why should he do anything about it?

Trump didn’t say Cruz was ineligible.

Not in so many words, no. But his meaning and his intent was clear. He wants to cast doubt on Cruz's eligibility and try to derail his message. Whether Trump actually believes it or not is irrelevant. He wants others to believe it.

If you Cruz supporters would do half as much Googling to support your candidate as you do trying to tear down and denigrate another; your candidate just might have a chance.

And if wish you Trump supporters would stop denying your man said and meant what he actually said and meant. But that's not going to happen.

Trump, however, does have a word for those like you and the media who take a statement and twist it into what you want it to say, nevermind what was actually said.

Would that word be "quoting"? As in "We're just quoting what Trump said?"

If you want to research something, why don’t you look at how many who are NOT Trump that are already preparing their cases against Cruz and his eligibility should he be the nominee.

For example?

For example, Allan Grayson, a Florida lawmker, has said that he will file a formal lawsuit if Ted Cruz wins the nomination.

That’s the last bandwidth I’ll waste. It’s useless.

So you say "many people" and when pressed you come up with one. You are indeed a Trump supporter.
