We have had a signed free trade treaty with Mexico for over 20 years yet sugar imports from Mexico are still severely restricted to protect sugar beet farmers in Florida.

Agriculture is the least free trade in the world.

I doubt we see a flood from Cuba.

And if we do Senators from Florida will put a quick end to it.

Except there is a grand total of one major sugar cane growing operation in Florida left. Losing that will have negligible effect on the Florida economy.

However, with Cuba so close to Florida, the sugar refiners in Florida could do booming business processing sugar cane, especially given the very low transportation costs.
