Ted Cruz said during an appearance in Iowa on Monday that there’s a difference between him and Donald Trump on immigration.
The Texas senator, who is leading the field of Republican presidential candidates in Iowa according to the latest polls, was asked by a man in the state if, like Trump, he believed that all undocumented immigrants should be deported.
Cruz replied, “Absolutely yes.â€
“And in fact, look, there’s a difference,†said Cruz. “He’s advocated allowing folks to come back in and become citizens. I oppose that.â€
Cruz is on a six-day trip around the state to shore up support for his candidacy. He made the remarks during an appearance in Boone. The video of the exchange was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday. Here’s a transript of the exchange:
QUESTIONER: Both you and Donald Trump are really strong on immigration, but he supports deporting all the illegal immigrants. Are you willing to say the same?
TED CRUZ: Absolutely, yes. We should enforce the law.
Q: All?
T.C.: We should enforce the law.
Q: Ok.
T.C.: And in fact, look, there’s a difference. He’s advocated allowing folks to come back in and become citizens. I oppose that.
Q: So no citizens and all of them?
T.C.: So, if you read I have a very detailed 11-page immigration proposal that’s on my website it’s TedCruz.org. It was designed with Steve King and Jeff Sessions were the two who sat down with me to prepare it and it is enforce the law across the board.
You are twisting what Trump said. After ALL of them being deported they have to get in line with all others wanting to immigrate or get work visas. The line is years long.
You are doing what you accuse Trump supporters of doing, twisting Cruz’s words.

Maybe we need to hire them and their skills they have already over H1Bs instead and make companies play in a legit market instead of one manipulated with illegals and foreign cheap labor..
By refusing them under existing laws because they’ve violated our existing immigration laws forbidding illegal immigration. Part of immigration screening under existing laws is to screen out those who have violated our law.
Sorry, but Trump did say -expedite- in an interview with CNN after he announced he was running for President. Trump’s words, not ours.
What Trump said to Dana Bash, just this last year, on CNN:
I would get people out and then have an expedited way of getting them back into the country so they can be legal…. A lot of these people are helping us … and sometimes it’s jobs a citizen of the United States doesn’t want to do. I want to move ’em out, and we’re going to move ’em back in and let them be legal.
Expedited seems unfair to people who have tried to do this legally and correctly.

Well have to trim our welfare benefits to make worthwhile again in some placrs. In Pennsylvania, it’s estimated that a family of four can recieve $60,000 per year in welfare benefits.
Sure.
Yet, as Cruz pointed out last night on Fox, a few weeks ago all the attacks were focused on Trump---now they're aimed at him (Ted), which indicates something has changed.
He's right. I would add that another indicator is the increasing agitation of you Trumpsters; you swarm every Cruz thread even more quickly now, your yelling that Cruz can't win gets louder, and you all seem to be moodier and quick to anger.
Something has changed, indeed.
“Back of the line” is a contradiction of trump’s “expedited.” If you don’t like that, take it up with trump.
You soured on Crus because of emails? What a patriot.
He can flood my box with as many as he wants. The country is worth it. I know how to hit the delete button if I’m feeling microaggressed.
Cruz and Trump are nothing alike. The former is a solid Constitutional conservative and the latter is a lifelong progressive huckster.
Electing progressives is never a win, but rather a disaster.

Sorry, this isn't a deal breaker for me, but Cruz hasn't been strong on this issue. Until now. That should give you pause.
Trump was for an in-place legalization amnesty for the non criminals thru late July 2015.
After that, he has continually said that he want's to expedite the good ones back, which is another legalization amnesty.
That should really give you pause.
He was asked a question.
What do you think the proper response would have been? "I can't answer you, or I'll look desperate"?
Trump has been “conservative” for six months with nothing to show for it but a bunch of talk, and that doesn’t give you pause?
Yes, and Ryan and McConnell would have a field day with it too.
Expedite the legal immigration process, good it is a mess.
Being for amnesty I don't consider "owning the issue".
Ok, I see what you’re saying. For me, this youtube video was leaked by the Cruz campaign, contemporaneous with the airing of their new ad on immigration— why in this manner- we’ll see.
Just watch and see:
Trump saying The Ban-All-Muslims-at-least-Temporarily thing will get revised.
He threw out the red meat statement to get his supporters fired up, the old “he isn’t politically correct and that is why we like him” crowd.
This will morph into something similar to what Cruz supports. Cruz supports a 3 year ban on people coming in from countries with ties to terrorism/terrorist.
Trump knows he cannot ban a religion, but you can place restrictions and bans on where people come from.
Once again, he is negotiating.
Say the outrageous then back it down to something more reasonable.
People will remember the outrageous, then try to defend the walk back, claiming, he said it first, or he is still better than so-and-so, etc, etc, etc...
It has been his pattern.
Ironically, I haven’t received many emails yet this year.
