The standoff between supporters of two Oregon ranchers convicted of setting fires on federal land they leased to graze cattle and government officials amounts to a clash of cultures, according to a legal observer.
"Those sipping lattes, they have no clue how the ranching economy, the Western economy works. They believe ranching destroys the environment, that ranching is a vestige of a bygone era," said attorney James S. Burling, the litigation director of the Pacific Legal Foundation.
Two years after the standoff at Cliven Bundy's ranch in Nevada, two of Bundy's sons helped initiate the occupation of the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

how will the eat local lefty environmentalists do that if their regulations end farming and ranching....

PRICELESS!
Against ranching because it destroys the environment. Yet the millions of wildebeest, antelope, gazelle, cape buffalo etc. graze and destroy land in Africa, while humans getting no benefit from them is okay.
One benefit of BLM cattle grazers is that they
develop water resources for the native wild
life as well as the livestock.
When someone looks after the means of production, it tends to be more productive.
Families who have farmed or ranched land tend to know how to be the best stewards of that land, especially if they have been doing so for decades or even centuries.
They are generally far more qualified to care for it than someone with a newly minted BA in wildlife management.
Yeah, it’s a clash of culture all right: Ranchers (American culture) vs. environ-MENTAL-ists (deadly bacterial culture).
Yep. priceless indeed.
Cattle can be sold at market for profit. Not sure anybody wants to buy grass-fed government officials.
You'd have indigestion for decades.
There are people on FR who insist we’re ALL gonna starve to death if the supermarkets lose electricity...
Well, they don’t want us going on trophy hunts for lions anymore....
I have observed that while they are similar, hunting and pest control are not quite the same thing.
We’re not? LOL!
All right... How about all the ranchers and farmers in the country go on strike, give these folks a little dose of reality?
Western Ranchers are the new Kulaks. If you want to get really scared about it, go read what the Twitter Tw@ts are saying. Talk about bacterial...that place is a sewer.
Yep thats a REAL Classic!
I wish people would make an effort to get the event straight...the Hammonds set a back fire during a wild fire event. From what I understand, they set the back fire on their private land and it spread to 127-acres of BLM land. Big deal.
This fact should always be mentioned; it is the kind of information the pisses off people who have no knowledge of wild fire management. That someone would have to do prison time for this is inexcusable.
That is exactly right...hell, half the feral horses in Nevada would die if it wasn't for local ranchers.
