It is that good, I have done some of the above....

True, although please refresh my memory if McConnell led the charge against him ? Though even if he did, Hagel had already left the party in all but name by then (he apparently has not endorsed any Republicans in a decade), so that’s where it differs a bit.
-PJ
OK. Yes, here it was a vote against a guy who was really no longer in good stead with the party. Virtually no credible Republican leaders were cheerleading for him to take that job. If they had, Hagel would never have been considered by Zero.
That could very well describe Cruz' standing vis a vis McConnell and his crew (this may fail your "credible Republican leaders" test). That's why I said that Cruz might be more effective as Trump's agent in the Senate to thwart McConnell instead of in a Cabinet position he might not get and be damaged in the nomination fight.

Yeah, it would fail my “credible leaders” test. ;-D Cruz may not be the Establishment’s favorite guy, but he’s not in the “not in good standing with the GOP” category as Hagel was.
I know one FReeper going around here posting he wants Cruz to be Majority Leader, but that’s just not going to happen. Now, if Trump had the ability to appoint the position, that might be something to consider, but otherwise, I’m still of the belief it would be better for him to become VP. Given the high expectations that Trump is going to change the paradigm in DC, there’s going to be a lot of people that are going to want to stop him by violent means, and I want Cruz in there ready and able to step up and carry on the agenda (if, heaven forbid, that happens).

The ones Trump would choose would not likely hail from at-risk states (Cruz or Jeff Sessions in AL).
Refuting any Cruz ties to the Mississippi Runnoff Betrayal ...
[hat tip to impy — this a repost of his research]
Ted Cruz supported investigating the MS runoff results.
Chris McDaniel is a co-chair of Cruz’s campaign in MS.
