Matt Brandon, secretary-treasurer of the Service Employees International Union Local 73, which represents the aviation police officers, said he doesn’t understand why the officers are prohibited from carrying guns.
He said the union has been unable to get the aviation department to change the no gun policy, which dates to the early 1990s.

Ummmm... what, exactly, do they secure, other than a paycheck.
chicago is probably more screwed up than fallujah. and twice as violent.
They need to arm these unarmed “police” officers and change the policy
sounds about right. Unions dont give a damn about you or me but themselves. It’s best for these nincompoops to be unarmed or they might hurt us and themselves.
I saw this on the news yesterday; they have armed police in numbers consistent with other airports, but use these “rent-a-cop” types as well. It looks like it is just makework to hire minorities (based on those shown on the news segment); they weren’t very fit.
The Light Brigade is Honored Cowards are not.
Unarmed guards should not call themselves “policemen”.
What we need is the restoration of “Dirty Harry”, with Clint Eastwood as San Francisco Police Department detective “Dirty” Harry Callahan. The public may not love the policemen thus portrayed, but they would sure respect them.
Any rival airports near O’Hare should emphasize they have guards with weapons who are trained to protect the customer, not just keep them company in a tiny safe room.
To Protect (their own a$$e$) and To Serve (their own interests). Nice to see what law enforcement has devolved into.
Now, if this same order stands for federal buildings in Oregon, we’ve got an interesting situation.
True enough. Guards require weapons.

BIG Amen to that!
Why would any police officer want to be "loved" by the public? Respect and fear are better. Suspicion isn't good either.
Taking a page from the Hillary Benghazi strategy?
“You’re on your own now!”
Someone must survive to file the report.
I wouldn’t go to that hell hole if I was paid to.
Paul Black’s dream gig.
It says the only armed officers there are from Chicago PD. Its is CNN though.
