Here are the states where Trump is strongest and weakest

The New York Times published the results of a study of 11,000 interviews with voters who call themselves Republican-leaning (but may not all be Republicans – more on that below).  They broke it down by congressional district to gauge the level of support for Donald Trump.  The purpose of their study seems to be to show that places where people do racist web searches correlated nearly perfectly with places where Trump has his strongest support (really!).  But let's ignore this wacko angle (unless we also want to see if Obama is most popular in places where blacks kill blacks) and see if we can get something useful from the data:

Apparently, Trump has a very strong amount of support in the Northeastern states, the South, and parts of the Midwest.

In the Northeast, his support is strongest in New York State, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New Hampshire. It is very weak in Vermont, Delaware, and Maryland, which are not as important, since they have fewer delegates.

In the Midwest, Trump is extremely strong in Michigan and very strong in Illinois, as well as in Missouri. His support in Indiana and Wisconsin and Iowa is much weaker. I get the impression that the more urbanized Midwestern states have stronger support for Trump and the more rural areas are less supportive, which would explain why he's struggling in Iowa.

Strong in New York. Does that not imply that a Democrat nominee would have to devote resources to win the otherwise ‘automatic’ state’?

Just saying:

New York Times.

This entire article is quite suspect.

It would seem so.

Trump winning in areas that other Pubbies cannot/have not.

Go Trump!

In TX, I see Trump stickers, from Central to SE TX. I have yet to see one Cruz sticker. I believe I saw it posted that Trump is even winning in TX.

An area is determined to be racist based on racial slurs or racist jokes in internet searches? That is so unscientific that it places the whole article squarely in the nonsense category.

We need strength, we need energy, we need quickness and we need brains in this country to turn it around.

Donald Trump

The states Trump is supposedly soft in except for Iowa he has not been stumping much in yet. Right now he needs to concentrate on Iowas, NH, SC, FL and the SEC. The rest will come later.

Trump is, in my analysis, a third party candidate in a major party. That is, his appeal is like Perot’s where it tends to have broader appeal than just can be contained within say the Republican party. In other words, I can see Democrat’s jumping the Hillary ship. Now, will he lose Republican’s in the process? Who knows? Assuming he doesn’t, we just need Democrats in Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan to cross over. Hillary having to defend New York would throw a monkey wrench into the Democrat machinery.

I was in Houston all last week and talked to many Vets and LE, although they do not wear it on their sleeve thay all support Trump and mostly say they plan to vote for him. There were also positive words for Cruz, but not the first choice for many.

Agree!

Trump’s crossover appeal makes him the viable choice, in this race.

The article is focused on the primary, but your point is valid for the general.
I also think Trump could carry states that are not usually in play. NY would be YUGE, PA would be in play.
I’m feeling a landslide shaping up.

The feedback I get, from fellow Texans in my circle, is that CRuz needs to get a lot more experience under his belt before running for national office.

Most are surprised that he decided to throw his hat into the ring, as a first term Senator.

Good analysis.

The fact that Hellary has to defend NY...or any part of the NE, against Trump, is delightful.

It might, but remember this is a report of poll results among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents only, not the whole electorate.

Trump is a nightmare for the Democrats. For exactly that reason.

Trump is weak in Wisconsin and I think that’s accurate. I think WI will go to Rubio.

I get that. But I think that Trump appeals to “New Yawkers”. That is, ‘The City’. Upstate New York, outside of Buffalo, is pretty conservative. Put ‘The City’ in play, and we have a race.

Surprised Donald is not that strong in Texas- one of the states hurt the most by open borders.

From what I’ve read, border guards along the Texas/Mexican border have been told by Obama to stand down and let the hoards through.

The illegal aliens are committing crimes against us, going on welfare and putting us on the road to bankruptcy.
