Apple CEO Says Chinese Have More Skill Making Their Products Than Americans
China Money Report ^ | 22 December 2015 | D. Collins

Tim Cook has come out about a real truth of the decline in manufacturing. What he omitted however, is that no one will manufacture in the U.S. unless they absolutely have to due to a 38% corporate tax rate.

On 60 Minutes Sunday, Charlie Rose asked Apple CEO Tim Cook about his company’s manufacturing practices in China. Cook said the decision to use Chinese manufacturing has nothing to do with American workers demanding higher wages. He said it was because the Chinese have more skill.

“Let me be clear,” Cook told Rose, “China put an enormous focus on manufacturing in what you and I would call vocational skills. The U.S., over time, began to stop having as many vocational skills.

“The U.S., over time, began to stop having as many vocational skills.”

It wasn’t a valid point; Americans could no longer make a living at those jobs (either because they were sent overseas, or because wages fell too steeply). Red China didn’t produce factory workers to raise crops; they produce them because our factory jobs went over there - and our factory workers were idled. College might not be the answer, but investing time & money learning a formerly lucrative trade doesn’t make much sense either.

This would be akin to bemoaning the fact that American students don’t study cost accounting anymore; it was tailored primarily for a manufacturing environment, and that work left with those jobs. If the owners of those closed factories complained about the lack of cost accountants twenty years later, they’d rightly be mocked for it.

Cook & Co. CAUSED THIS.

And if they get injured on the job, they do not complain, because there are a million applicants waiting to take their job. They have no rights.

So they have something to point to when people accuse them of making everything in China?

I would think so. But why go to all the trouble of doing that if your CEO is going to imply that your most expensive desktop computer is made with inferior labor?

Only other thing I could think of is it might help Apple in bidding on some military contracts.

Total BS. it comes down to the very cheap labor in China. it takes ZERO skills to assemble a iPhone. Any monkey can be trained to do it. So, while Apple touts huge profits in the hundreds of billion of dollars, they cheap out and refuse to spend that money in America to hire Americans to build products sold to Americans.

I fully believe every country should demand products sold in their country be made in their country to the greatest extent possible. I have no problem with Apple making products in Europe to sell to Europe, and making them in China to sell to the Chinese, but this idea that Americans cannot make the products is an outright lie to try to hide the fact that Apple would not suffer loss of profits if they made Products outside of cheap Chinese labor. They have massive record profits.

So why does Apple make the Mac Pro in the U.S.?

I don't they make the actual components in the U.S. But they may assemble them here.

I think if they put the factory in Detroit and lightened up on the slave labor conditions it would be a great thing and would work out very well, for everyone.

And America would be behind it 100%.

Yup. And those pesky environmental laws in the US don’t apply in China.

How much skill does it take to contaminate goods with lead? The Chinese are proficient at this.

"Most of the computers were being fixed by foreigners, and the Americans were doing the moving, sorting, packing and custodial work.

-and the Americans were probably making just about as much money as the imported computer technicians, without the need for an overpriced college education.

Obviously, the processors and RAM aren't made here, but I thought the case and the mainboards are at least manufactured stateside.

I joke that God gave me poor health because he feared I’d rule the world.

Kidding aside though, When you look at American history, thats exactly what liberals did to America.

Apple is different from most manufacturers in that its labor costs are a very small part of its cost of doing business. The company only has about 115,000 employees worldwide, which is a far cry from the largest US-based employers like IBM (430,000), McDonalds (440,000) and Wal-Mart (over 2 million)

Cook is lying.

Cook’s rich, lily-white Democrats have: 1. Created an anti-business regulatory climate, especially regarding environmental rules that force businesses overseas. They have exported deadly pollution to China but don’t care.

2. Destroyed the American education system that could have prepared several generations of young people to compete in the worldwide market. And they did it through creation of unions for government workers, unions whose only purpose was to support Democrats in office.

Now, of course, GOPe Repubicans stand for the same things.

He is a liar. They work the Chinese laborers 60 hours a weak. 10 hours a day, 6 days. They pay them peanuts. Multiply that by a million people and you are talking about SERIOUS money saved in labor.

Computer repair is not a high level STEM job at the depot level. If you can turn a screw driver you can swap a hard drive.
