Ted Cruz says Bill Clinton not an issue in presidential race
Dallas Morning News ^ | 12/30/15 | Gromer Jeffries

Ted Cruz says he won't use former President Bill Clinton's political liabilities against Democratic presidential contender and former First Lady Hillary Clinton.

"I am not interested in getting into personal attacks and innuendo," he said Tuesday at a news conference in Cisco. "Hillary Clinton’s biggest liability is that her policies are a disaster."

New York businessman Donald Trump, the frontrunner in the Republican race for president, has used Twitter to black Bill Clinton as abusive to women.

"If Hillary thinks she can unleash her husband, with his terrible record of women abuse, while playing the women’s card on me, she’s wrong! Mr. Trump said Monday via Twitter.

Cruz says he won't engage in such attacks.

Instead, he outlined how he would contrast himself with Clinton, should he get the Republican nomination for president.

"Because of the Obama/Clinton economic policies, millions of Americans are hurting," he said. “We have the lowest percentage of Americans working since 1977."

He added that "the Obama/Clinton foreign policy is terrible because of the strengthening of Iran and the rise of the Islamic State.

"That is a record that is substantially indefensible," he said.

Jesus says we cannot see the Kingdom unless we are born from above. Odd thing, isn’t it. :)

In that post, I derided the practice of "guilt by association," which as you know I oppose on logical as well as ethical grounds.

A completely stupid argument. Hillary Clinton aided and abetted Bill in the intimidation of women, besides putting up with an abuser of women in her own marriage. They are legitimately tied together.

This is simply pathetic rationalizing for refusing to fight necessary battles.

Jesus is God, and He can say what He wants.

And yet the scripture specifically describes Christ as "meek," gentle, "made himself of no reputation, took upon himself the form of a servant," but apparently the same rhetoric that Christ uses, that Elijah uses, that entire books of the Bible uses (Amos), is supposedly off limits! Paul even commanded Christians not even to show common hospitality to heretics, but to turn them out, and you think we're bound to a nauseating and hypocritical refusal to name evil that is nowhere evidenced in the behavior of any Christian, martyr or church theologian for nearly 2000 years!

Your error is projecting your own sissified notions of what rhetoric and truth telling should look like onto an ancient world with very different ideas and standards.

Oh, I never said name-calling was prohibited.  I just said that folks need to proceed with extreme caution, because those "sissified" notions of gentle, peaceable communication, not calling people morons, etc., all those are divine authority, God talking to us through Scripture, which is sort of like really important, and you are just some anonymous internet guy.  Who do you think I'm more likely to follow?

And I do not offer "godspeed" to heretics, but neither am I rude to them, as they are lost souls who need redemption, just like me at an earlier time in my life.  I agree that loving our enemy may require frankness, but love is not unkind or rude:
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
(1 Corinthians 13:4-5)
(New King James)
If we love our enemy, we will tell them the truth faithfully, but we will do it in the manner of grace we have been taught.

As for Hillary, attacking her by proxy through her association with Bill is not just poor logic and poor ethics, but poor judgment as well.  She is a target rich environment all by herself, and there is no faster way for Ted to get into an ugly mud-wrestling match with no good outcome than to wade into those murky personal waters. Benghazi is enough. Her unsecured computer is enough.  Her conflicts of interest in dealing with heads of state is more than enough. Ted will be able to go all day and all night long when he's up against her in the general on all the legitimate targets she presents.  He'd be foolish to waste his precious ammo on questionable targets with no clear payout.  I like what he's doing. Sorry if that doesn't sit well with you.

Peace,

SR

As much as I like his conservatism, I am sorry, but he just doesn’t have the fight in him. To take on the Democrats what is needed is a measure of “Junk Yard Dog’.

Notice how you literally ignore every single thing I said, and then repeat, in as self-righteous a way possible, the same thing you said before.

I think Cruz is making a big mistake to unilaterally disarm. Trump has fired a shot across the HRC bow, and she knows he's not bluffing. It's a fight she will lose; I suspect she'll back down, pronto.

In a campaign speech today, Trump noted that Hillary didn't mention him or his sexism during her most recent appearance. He implied that his warnings against her have already silenced her.

To use your wise words, Hillary has backed down already.

Well, you have ignored, or at least not addressed, the numerous Scriptures I presented that warn us to be careful about what we call people, or being rude or unkind to them. You are OK with ignoring perhaps 90% of what I have said, so I cannot understand your objection to me not wanting to go over your failed “guilt by association” arguments again.

As for rebuking someone who is erring, yes, sometimes folks perceive that as self-righteousness. It’s probably the single most common objection I’ve encountered over the years in simply presenting the Gospel. Tell someone they’re a sinner who needs a Savior, and somehow they don’t enjoy that message, and find ways to resist it. I can’t help what’s in the message, I’m just the nobody messenger. Don’t get mad at me.

Peace,

SR

Well, you have ignored,

You repeated the stupidity about it being "unethical" to tie Hillary to Bill, ignoring my challenge to your conclusion where I showed it is perfectly valid, as Hillary played an active role in Clinton's cover ups.

You then repeated your silly "Only God can honestly tell people 'you're a hypocrite!'," by ignoring my firm point: That Christ is called humble, meek, graceful, and living as a "servant," and yet this does not contradict anything He did. I'll also add that the whole "You're not an Apostle!" is also invalid, since it does not follow that only an Apostle may speak honestly and frankly with his enemies.

I'll stick with common sense and the example of Christ, the Apostles, the Church Fathers and nearly 2000 years of Christian history, and you can make your silly arguments designed just to make you feel more holy than everyone else.

His 2012 Senate opponent ran a very negative race, yet Ted managed to beat him handily.

If you try to extrapolate this to the 2016 presidential race, you're making the mistake of equating Texas to America.

Texas is a whole 'nuther world.

A few points:

You wouldn’t know strength if it knocked on your front door. You have it confused with yelling, bloviating, and gasbaggery.

A statement of fact about the status of a campaign is not “worship.”

Worship, IS, however, comparing one’s candidate to everyone from Moses to Washington; writing keening hymns to him, admitting “addiction” to said candidate and claiming that not one of his TV appearances can be missed; and stating that the candidate is one’s “happiness” and must not be taken away.

If you want to talk about worship, look to your fellow Trump fans.

By the way:

for Ted to get into an ugly mud-wrestling match with no good outcome than to wade into those murky personal waters. Benghazi is enough. Her unsecured computer is enough. Her conflicts of interest in dealing with heads of state is more than enough.

Politics is a street fight. When Cruz is being demolished for his Dominionist ties, the lies of his father, the artificiality of his campaign, and for the color of his underwear, Mr. "Let's keep it to the issues!" will be going the way of the Dodo bird, just like Romney and McCain before him.

Cruz is a good fighter. His present positioning is good evidence of that. I like the choices he is making. Obviously you prefer someone whose background I find far less convincing in terms of consistent Christianity and consistent commitment to constitutional principles. God raises up kings, and God takes them down. It will happen as He wills it to. Meanwhile, I will vote for the person I believe better qualified, by character, intellect, and temperament, to be the next American president, Ted Cruz.

Peace,

SR

Cruz is a good fighter

Cruz is part-sissy like the rest of them, deciding to rule out juicy, beautiful and valid attacks because it's not nice. Cruz had already hinted before that he had trouble with Trump's "tone."

Cruz apparently has learned nothing and is deciding to take the "nice guy" holier than thou route that is a certain route to defeat.

in terms of consistent Christianity

Not that you would know much about it, since you're definition of Christian is anyone who can pull off the televangelist tone of voice while they talk God and the need to get as much money out of you as possible.

Had you read Cruz's actual statement, you would be better informed.

Cruz said that, while Bill Clinton is not himself the issue, Hillary's covering -- if not support -- of her husband's womanizing is the issue.

Not "nice guy". It's called "precise language".
