In Singapore, it is done on the roof of or other private area of a prison with a medic present to daub disinfectant on any wounds open and call off further strokes if medically necessary. Vital organs are protected by a leather tarp in case the administrator of the stroke strikes an errant blow, which almost never happens as they are trained properly.

Well, isn't that "humane" of them.

Sometimes I think corporal punishment would do better for our society than jailing offenders.

But whipping, public or private, is not ever making a comeback in US law.

It’s not as severe as a Sharia caning or British Navy flogging of lore which I think inspired it in Singapore and Malaysia

But it stings and injures no question

The maximum caning in Singapore requires hospitalization afterwards

24 lashes on bare buttocks full force

That’s for what we consider for severe crimes in addition to prison sentence

Years ago I had a conversation with missionaries who were home from Singapore. They were in favor of public lashings: everyone knows the consequence for breaking the law and it’s a very effective deterrent. Much more so than probation or jail. People choose to commit crimes and that is the consequence. It’s fair and there’s no permanent damage.

It goes without saying that sharia law is a whole different unjust system.
