SEATTLE - The general manager at a restaurant at Seattle's University Village is apologizing to a mother after one of its employees told a breastfeeding mother to cover up.
"There shouldn't be a stigma about breastfeeding," mother Lauren Hernandez said.
Hernandez was having lunch at Piatti Sunday afternoon.
She was with her 9-month-old son, Bob, who started getting fussy.
"While I was nursing him, the hostess came up to me and told me to cover up because people had complained," Hernandez said. "And I told her 'I think it's illegal for you to tell me to cover up' and she said 'No, we just had training on it.'"

My son is now 50 yrs. old. Back when he was born, bottle
feeding was about all that was considered. I tried
breastfeeding; but was still a teenager myself and it
HURT, so I didn’t last long. - If I had it to do over, I
would have done a lot of things different, like toughing
out the initial pain.
Human babies drink (if they are able to) human milk. She was not walking around with her baby latched on. To compare a mother nursing an infant to a monkey, is simply nonsense. I think you should try eating all of your meals under a heavy cloth covering. As I stated before I have seen plenty of nursing babies and not once have I seen a full breast exposed. You see more tit in most bikinis and some tank tops.
Yes and kind of disturbing.
She should have been thrown out and the table burned. Big difference between feces and food.
“Big difference between feces and food.”
Yeah, about 25 feet of intestines worth of difference...
So, what other human bodily activities are perfectly natural? Let’s do ‘em all in left coast eateriews, and when someone complains, go viral.
How hard is it for the offended one to simply avert his or her eyes?
It’s quite challenging to see public breastfeeding as an element of creeping Marxism.
“If it is a private establishment they have the right to refuse service or ask anyone they want to leave.”
Tell that to the bakers in Oregon who just had every last time taken from them for refusing to bake a gay couple’s ‘wedding’ cake.
Her Facebook page lists her likings. Real left coaster.
The complaint isn’t about breast feeding, it’s about her insisting she can do it without covering up, Covering up is very appropriate and done by women of any class or intelligence in our society.
Blanket? Tent. Circus size.
Yep. Same here.
That 25 feet does matter.
Thank you for my chuckle of the day.
“I was wearing a Moby wrap and a T-shirt. I was pretty covered up.”
The Moby wrap pretty much covers baby and breast. Nursing is very discreet while mother wears one. You can find some images if you do a search.
Men who think women shouldn't breastfeed in public remind me of Muslims who think women's faces and bodies need to be covered in public. No difference.
What is it that gets these men so angry? Men parade around the beach exposing their nipples and even more. Doesn't make me want to stare at them or make nasty comments to them.
Not my problem. That woman was purposely rude. I don’t care cause I wasn’t there. I breastfed and never needed to do it in public.
The article states the woman left rather than make a scene. How is that rude? I rarely needed to nurse my children in public but if they were hungry and I was not close to home I did.
Good point. Modesty is also how one behaves. I fail to see how feeding your baby is immodest. It sure the heck ain’t a pole dance.
